Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922, and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. These colleges include College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Engineering Art & Design (CEDAT), College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (CAES), College Of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHUSS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & Bio-security (COVAB), College of Education and External Studies (CEES) and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). In addition, Makerere has onother campus in Eastern Uganda Jinja City.
Makerere College School is a co-educational government aided O and A Level school founded in 1945 by Makerere University. In 1945 Makerere University was still a constituent college of the University of London. The school is located on the main campus of Makerere University, adjacent to the College of Education and External Studies on Makerere Hill Road.
Kyambogo University (KYU) is a public university in Uganda. It is one of the eight public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country with the motto, "Knowledge and Skills for Service."

Charity Basaza Mulenga is a Ugandan electrical engineer and academic administrator. She was the founding vice chancellor of St. Augustine International University (SAIU), a private institution of higher education that the Uganda National Council for Higher Education accredited in 2011.
Mary Jossy Nakhanda Okwakol is a Ugandan university professor, academic administrator, zoologist and community leader. She is the current chairperson of the Uganda National Examinations Board.
Joy Constance Kwesiga is a Ugandan academic, academic administrator, gender specialist, and community activist. She is the vice chancellor of Kabale University, a public institution of higher education in Uganda and accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education in 2005.
Eriabu Lugujjo is an electrical engineer, academic and academic administrator. He is the current vice chancellor of Ndejje University, a private Christian university, which was licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education, in 1992. He was appointed to that position in July 2012.
Ahmad Kaweesa Ssengendo is a Ugandan botanist, academic, and academic administrator. He is the former Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda, a private university that was accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE) in 1988. He was appointed to that position in 2004.
Pamela Kasabiiti Mbabazi is a Ugandan university professor, academician, and academic administrator, who currently serves as the Chairperson of the National Planning Authority of Uganda. She was installed in that position in April 2019, to serve a five-year term, renewable one time.

Uganda National Academy of Sciences is a nonprofit, scientific organization in Uganda, that brings together scientists from the behavioral, biological, physical and social sciences. These scientists work together to promote excellence in sciences by "offering independent, evidence-based advice for the prosperity of Uganda", according to the academy's brochure.
Mouhammad Mpezamihigo born is a Ugandan Agriculturalist, Chair of Senate and the current Vice Chancellor of Equator University of Science and Technology in Uganda.
Maria Musoke, sometimes referred to as Maria G.N. Musoke is a Ugandan information scientist and academician. She is the first Ugandan woman to obtain a PhD in Information Science. She is a professor of Information Science and a Deputy Vice Chancellor at Kyambogo University in Uganda. She also serves as a council member (2019–2022) of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences.
Silver Mugisha, is a Ugandan civil engineer and corporate executive, who serves as the managing director and chief executive officer of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), since August 2013. Before that, he served as the chief manager responsible for "Institutional Development and External Services" at the NWSC.
Alice Norah Nabatanzi, is a Ugandan researcher and academic scientist at Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university, where she earned a doctorate degree at age 28.
John F. Mugisha is an Ugandan scholar, researcher, health scientist, and academic administrator. He is the fourth and current Vice Chancellor of Bishop Stuart University, a private Chartered Higher Education Institution accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education, since July 2024. Before joining Bishop Stuart University, Mugisha was, until June 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda, which he joined in 2016 from Uganda Martyrs University, where he had served as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences for six years.
