The Melbourne City Player of the Year award is an official award given by Melbourne City Football Club to the best performing player (men's and women's) from the club over the course of the season.

Contents

The inaugural men's award was handed to Clint Bolton in 2011, and the inaugural women's award was handed to Aivi Luik in 2015.

Mathew Leckie is the most recent men's winner of the award, following the 2022–23 men's season and Julia Grosso is the most recent women's winner of the award, following the 2022–23 women's season.

The 1995–96 FA Premier League was the fourth season of the competition, since its formation in 1992. Due to the decision to reduce the number of clubs in the Premier League from 22 to 20, only two clubs were promoted instead of the usual three, Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers.

A-League Men is the highest-level professional men's soccer league in Australia and New Zealand. At the top of the Australian league system, it is the country's premier men's competition for the sport. A-League Men was established in 2004 as the A-League by the Football Federation Australia (FFA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL) and competition commenced in August 2005. The league is currently administered by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL), contested by twelve teams; eleven based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Aaron Frank Mooy is an Australian former professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. He is considered to be one of the greatest Australian midfielders of all time and one of Huddersfield Town's greatest players in recent decades. Mooy was voted PFA Footballer of the Year a record three times, consecutively, and was nominated for the 2017 Asian Footballer of the Year award. He was named in the A-League Men Team of the Season twice, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year and EFL Team of the Season once. He was voted and named in Australia's Team of the Century.

The 2015–16 A-League was the 39th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the 11th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. Melbourne Victory were both the defending A-League Premiers and Champions. The regular season schedule was released on 29 June 2015. The season commenced on 8 October 2015 and concluded on 10 April 2016. The finals series commenced on 15 April 2016 and concluded with the 2016 Grand Final, held on 1 May 2016.

Jamie Maclaren is an Australian professional soccer player who Captains & plays as a striker for A-League club Melbourne City. He has also previously played for Darmstadt 98, Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and Hibernian. Maclaren initially represented Scotland at youth level, but has since appeared for Australia at both youth and senior international level. He is a five time A-League Golden Boot winner as A-League top scorer in the 2016–17, 2019–20, 2020–21 and 2021–22 season, 2022–23 and 24 goals). He is now the A-League all-time leading goalscorer overtaking Besart Berisha with 151 and counting.

The A-League Men Golden Boot is an annual association football award presented to the leading goalscorer in the A-League Men. It is currently referred to as the Nike Golden Boot for sponsorship purposes.

The Melbourne Stars (WBBL) are an Australian women's Twenty20 cricket team based in St Kilda, Victoria. They are one of two teams from Melbourne to compete in the Women's Big Bash League, the other being the Melbourne Renegades. To date, the Stars' best performance occurred in WBBL|06 when they ended the regular season as minor premiers before ultimately finishing as runners-up.

Marco Tilio is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a winger for Scottish club Celtic and the Australia national team.

The 2021–22 A-League Women, known as the Liberty A-League for sponsorship reasons, was the fourteenth season of the A-League Women, the Australian national women's association football competition originally known as the W-League until the previous season. Wellington Phoenix were announced as an expansion club, taking the total teams to 10.

The 2022–23 A-League Men, known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons, was the 46th season of national level men's soccer in Australia, and the 18th since the establishment of the competition as the A-League in 2004.

The 2022–23 A-League Women, known as the Liberty A-League for sponsorship reasons, was the fifteenth season of the A-League Women, the Australian national women's soccer competition.
