Melechinnar is a small village in Idukki district of Kerala, India and is situated on the banks of a small river named Chinnar. Most of the inhabitants make their living from agriculture.
Idukki is one of the 14 districts of Kerala state, India, created on 26 January 1972 bifurcating Kottayam District. At that time, the district headquarters was at Kottayam. In June 1976 it was moved to Painavu. Idukki lies in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Idukki is the second largest district in area but has the lowest population density. Idukki has a vast forest reserve area; more than a half of the district is covered by forests. The urban areas are densely populated whereas villages are sparsely populated. Idukki is also known as the spice garden of Kerala.

Melechinnar is also known as Bethel. People migrated from Pala, Kottayam and other parts of Kerala to this region about 50 years ago. Cardamom, pepper, rubber, cacao and coffee are cultivated. Earlier, some small rice cultivation was there but which is less nowadays. Most of the houses have one or two cow and goats.

After the construction of the road, Adimaly is connected to Kattappana through Perinjamkutty, Melechinnar, and Erattayar. The road provides the least travel time compared to other roads. Melechinnar is a junction where roads to Kattappana, Thopramkudy, Nedumkandam and Adimaly meet together. Jeep services were the only means of transportation in the early days. But, now other transportation facilities are available. Both state-owned and privately operated buses provides services.
Kattappana is a municipal town in the Sahyadri of Kerala state, India. It is the main urban centre in the high ranges of Idukki district, situated about 2,788.71–2,952.76 feet (850.00–900.00 m) above mean sea level, in the High Ranges, the high altitude region of Kerala has recently raised to the status of municipality. Kattappana is a CLASS III urban centre. It is the first municipality in high range of Idukki district with the real terraineous touch of Idukki as Thodupuzha municipality is situated in low range. It is a major commercial town and flourished with the boost in production of agriculture and spices. Based on the 2011 Census, it had a total population of 42646, consisting of 21,159 males and 21,487 females.
Thopramkudy is a village in Vathikudy Gram panchayat, in Udumbanchola Taluk located in Idukki district in the State of Kerala in South India. Spread over an area of 27.94 km2, it is one of the spices market in the district of Idukki. The town has a tropical climate with a temperatures ranging from highs of 34.4 °C in the summer to a low of 18.5 °C in the winter, with a healthy rainfall of 3040 mm. Thopramkudy became a village in 1919.

Pala Narayanan Nair was an Indian poet and lyricist, best known for his work, Keralam Valarunnu, written in 1953, comprising eight volumes, which earned him the title of Mahakavi. He wrote more than 5,000 poems, which have been compiled in about 43 anthologies. Nair, who also wrote the lyrics for the 1956 Malayalam movie, Avar Unarunnu, was a recipient of the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary honour of the Government of Kerala as well as Vallathol Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry, besides other honours.
