Melissa Conyears-Ervin is an American politician and the current Chicago City Treasurer. [2] She was previously a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives,representing the 10th District since 2017. The 10th district includes all or parts of West Garfield Park,East Garfield Park,United Center,Ukrainian Village,River West,Goose Island,Wicker Park and Lincoln Park in Chicago. [3] [4]
Conyears-Ervin earned a Master of Business Administration from Roosevelt University. Prior to her political career,she worked in the insurance industry at both Allstate. and CS Insurance Strategies. [5]
In 2023 Conyears-Ervin faces an ethics investigation into allegations surrounding abuse of power. [6] Former employees allege her of requiring staff to perform personal tasks including planning birthday parties,grocery shopping,and forcing BMO Harris Bank to provide a mortgage for her husband,Chicago Alderman Jason Ervin. The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 wards to serve four-year terms. The council is called into session regularly,usually monthly,to consider ordinances,orders,and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes,utilities,taxes,and many other issues. The Chicago City Council Chambers are located in Chicago City Hall,as are the downtown offices of the individual alderpersons and staff.
George A. Cárdenas was Alderman of the 12th Ward of the City of Chicago. A member of the Democratic Party,he was elected to his first term on the Chicago City Council in 2003.
