The Menlo Park Fire Protection District is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for Menlo Park.
The Menlo Park Fire District is located on the peninsula in the southernmost part of San Mateo County in the metropolitan bay area. It covers approximately 30 square miles that reaches into the bay. The District's population is estimated around 90,000 and covers the communities of Atherton, Menlo Park and East Palo Alto as well as some of the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County. [3] The district is also part of the greater San Mateo County boundary-drop plan where the closest apparatus responds to each call, regardless of the department.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District is the sponsoring agency of USAR Task Force 3, one of the eight FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces spread across the state. [4] The task force is specially trained and equipped with 220 team members, consisting of 18 participating agencies and 60 civilians. [5]

The San Francisco Peninsula is a peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area that separates San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. On its northern tip is the City and County of San Francisco. Its southern base is in northern Santa Clara County, including the cities of Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Los Altos. Most of the Peninsula is occupied by San Mateo County, between San Francisco and Santa Clara counties, and including the cities and towns of Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, El Granada, Foster City, Hillsborough, Half Moon Bay, La Honda, Loma Mar, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Millbrae, Mountain View, Pacifica, Palo Alto, Pescadero, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Woodside.

North Fair Oaks is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area located in San Mateo County, California adjacent to Redwood City, Atherton, and Menlo Park. As of the 2010 census the area had a total population of 14,687. Because of the large number of residents from one Mexican state the area is also known as Little Michoacán. The larger area including North Fair Oaks and adjacent parts of Redwood City has a large Latino population and is known locally as Little Mexico. It is one of the most distinctive cities on the entire Peninsula, as it is one out of only three cities that have a majority Hispanic population.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) created the Task Force concept to provide support for large scale disasters in the United States. FEMA provides financial, technical and training support for the Task Forces as well as creating and verifying the standards of Task Force personnel and equipment.
