New Hampshire is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. Of the 50 U.S. states,New Hampshire is the fifth smallest by area and the tenth least populous,with slightly more than 1.3 million residents. Sununu was the chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party from 2009 to 2011.

It is the second largest nuclear plant in New England after the two-unit Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Connecticut.

He was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1975 and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2000. He was an IEEE Fellow and received the IEEE Haraden Pratt Award in 1983.
