Brandon Phinney (born April 27,1988) is an American politician and former member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives,representing Strafford County's 24th district.
Phinney earned his associate degree from Great Bay Community College and his bachelor's degree from Southern New Hampshire University. [1] In 2016,he was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives as a Republican,beating his Democratic opponent by just 116 votes. There,he became notable in atheist circles as the only openly atheist Republican legislator in the United States. [2] On June 27,2017,he announced in a press conference that he had changed his party affiliation to Libertarian. [3]
Phinney was defeated for re-election in a three-way race,finishing in third place with 10% of the total vote. He was succeeded by Republican Mona Perreault. Following his defeat,he announced he would run for Rochester City Council in 2019. [4]
He was elected to the State House again in 2022. [5]

The Libertarian Party (LP) is a political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties,non-interventionism,laissez-faire capitalism,and limiting the size and scope of government. The party was conceived in August 1971 at meetings in the home of David F. Nolan in Westminster,Colorado,and was officially formed on December 11,1971,in Colorado Springs. The organizers of the party drew inspiration from the works and ideas of the prominent Austrian school economist Murray Rothbard. The founding of the party was prompted in part due to concerns about the Nixon administration,the Vietnam War,conscription,and the introduction of fiat money.
John Parker Hale was an American politician and lawyer from New Hampshire. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1843 to 1845 and in the United States Senate from 1847 to 1853 and again from 1855 to 1865. He began his congressional career as a Democrat,but helped establish the anti-slavery Free Soil Party and eventually joined the Republican Party.
