Michael Marcagi is an American singer-songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio. [2]

Early life and education

Marcagi was raised in the suburbs of Cincinnati and attended Anderson High School. In 2014, he graduated from Thomas More University (then known as Thomas More College), where he played collegiate golf. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Prior to his solo career, Marcagi performed in a band called the Heavy Hours. [6]

Marcagi released his solo debut single, "The Other Side", in December 2023. The following month, he announced he had signed to Warner Records and released a second single, "Scared to Start". [7] Aided by popularity on TikTok, "Scared to Start" marked Marcagi's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Both singles were included on Marcagi's debut EP, American Romance, released in February 2024. [8]

It was released on May 17, 1982, as the lead single from the album Chicago 16. On September 11 of that year, it reached No. 1 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the group's second No. 1 single. It was their first top 50 hit since "No Tell Lover" in 1978 and it spent twelve weeks in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. The single was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in September of the same year. It was the fourth US single to be taken from the album and the fifth UK single. The version released as a single is a collaboration with Keyshia Cole and is from the Step Up film soundtrack. Despite The Trinity being re-released just before the single release, the version with Keyshia Cole does not appear on the album despite a "radio version" being added.

"Free Smoke" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake from his album, More Life (2017). The song was released on April 18, 2017, as the third single from More Life after "Passionfruit". The song features additional background vocals by Baka Not Nice, who is one of two credited musicians on More Life. The song was perceived by the media as a diss track to Meek Mill, as well as other rappers he could be feuding with. It reached the top 20 in Canada and the United States.

"Portland" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake featuring American rappers Quavo and Travis Scott from the former's mixtape More Life. The song was sent to rhythmic crossover radio on May 16, 2017, as the fourth single from the tape. The song also appears in the video game NBA 2K18.
