60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At indoor events, the 60 metres is run on lanes set out in the middle of the 'field', as is the hurdles event over the same distance, thus avoiding some of the effects of the banked track encircling the venue, upon which other track events in indoor events are run. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'on your marks', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. This will enable them to start faster. The final instruction is the firing of the starter's pistol. Upon hearing this the sprinters stride forwards from the blocks.
Clova E. Court is a retired English athlete, who competed mainly in the heptathlon and the 100 metres hurdles. She represented Great Britain in the heptathlon at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. She won a record five AAA Championships heptathlon tiles, and also won the 1994 AAAs Championship 100 metres hurdles title, defeating Sally Gunnell.
Kay Morley-Brown is a British former athlete who competed in the 100 metres hurdles. Representing Wales, she won the 1990 Commonwealth Games 100 metres hurdles title, and went on to represent Great Britain at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Her sister, Sue Morley, is also a former international hurdler.
Tiffany Adaeze Porter is a track and field athlete with joint British and American nationality who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles. She represented the United States as a junior, but began representing Great Britain in 2010 on joining the senior ranks after moving to England and competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Michelle-Lee Raquel Ahye is a Trinidadian sprinter. She was the gold medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the women's 100 metres.
Kendra "Keni" Harrison is an American hurdler. Harrison held the world record in the women's 100 metres hurdles with a time of 12.20 seconds, set on July 22, 2016 at the London Müller Anniversary Games, breaking the previous world record of 12.21 seconds achieved nearly 28 years earlier by Bulgarian athlete Yordanka Donkova.
Danielle Gracia Williams is a Jamaican track and field athlete specialising in the 100 metres hurdles. She is best known for winning gold medals at the 2015 World Championships and at the 2023 World Championships. In addition, she won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships, won two medals at Summer Universiades, bronze in 2013 and gold in 2015, won silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 NACAC Championships, and represented her country at the 2013 World Championships, all in the 100m hurdles.
Devynne Ashtyn Charlton is a Bahamian athlete specialising in the 100 metres hurdles.
Christina Clemons is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 meters hurdles. She won the silver medal in the 60 metres hurdles at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. Her time of 7.73 in the event is tied for the fifth-fastest time in history and 0.05 seconds off the world record.
Joy SpearChief-Morris is an indigenous Canadian hurdler from Lethbridge, Alberta. She is a multiple Ontario University Athletics and U Sports track champion and has competed for the Canadian U23 National Team. A Blackfoot from Alberta's Blood Tribe, SpearChief-Morris was the (female) recipient of the 2017 Tom Longboat Awards, awarded annually by the Aboriginal Sport Circle to the most outstanding male and female indigenous athletes in Canada. Her mother is Kainai First Nation and her father is an African-American from Los Angeles.
Cyréna Samba-Mayela is a French athlete who competes in the 60 metres hurdles and 100 metres hurdles. She won the gold medal in the 60 m hurdles at the 2022 World Indoor Championships, a silver medal at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships where she lowered the current French national record to 7.73 seconds, and the gold medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, where she established a new personal best, national record and championship record at 12.31 seconds. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, Samba-Mayela won a silver medal in the 100 m hurdles event.
Gabriele “Gabbi” Cunningham is an American Olympic track athlete. She won the bronze medal in the 60 metres hurdles at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
Julien Alfred is a Saint Lucian sprinter. She won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 100 metres event, setting a new national record of 10.72s in the final. Her medal was the first-ever Olympic medal for Saint Lucia. She then won a silver in the 200 metres. Alfred also won the gold medal in the 60 metres at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
Savannah Sutherland is a Canadian track and field athlete. She is the 2021 World U20 Championships bronze medalist and 2023 NCAA Outdoor champion in the 400 metres hurdles, and holds the Canadian national record in that distance, as well as the national indoor 400 metres record. Sutherland represented Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Kaila Jackson is an American track and field athlete who competes as a sprinter. In February 2023, she set a new U20 60 metres world record.
Thea Brown is a British track and field athlete who competes as a multi-event athlete.
Mariam Abdul-Rashid is a Canadian track and field athlete who competes as a sprint hurdler.
Denisha Cartwright is a Bahamian sprinter and sprint hurdler.
