Midtown is a mixed-use development district under development in Dallas, Texas (USA). The area is located in North Dallas, bordered by Interstate 635 on the south, Dallas North Tollway on the west, Spring Valley Road on the north, and Preston Road on the east. [1] The development is next to Galleria Dallas, an upscale shopping mall, and is located at the southern end of the Platinum Corridor.

History

A majority of Midtown is being developed on the former site of Valley View Center, originally built in 1973.

In 2011, efforts to coordinate the redevelopment of the mall and the surrounding real estate were being coordinated by the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce. [2] In April 2012, new owners of Valley View Center, Beck Ventures, announced a $4 billion redevelopment plan for the mall and surrounding property dubbed "Dallas Midtown" that would include retail, condominiums, and a "five star" hotel. [3] [4]

The City of Dallas established the Mall Area Redevelopment Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District in 2014. [5]

Economy

Park Tower at Dallas Midtown will include 305,230 square feet of office space and 45,900 square feet of retail space. [6] Hike and bike trails are planned, to connect Midtown to White Rock Creek Trail which leads to White Rock Lake. A trolley system is expected to connect Midtown to the Galleria. Also planned are two luxury hotels, a 10-screen luxury theater, multiple restaurants and entertainment venues.

Midtown is covered by Dallas City Council District 11. [8] Dallas Fire-Rescue Station 20 is located south of Midtown on Monfort Drive. [9] The Dallas Police Department's North Central Patrol Division serves the district. [10]

Midtown is located in District 114 of the Texas House of Representatives and is currently represented by Jason Villalba. [11] Midtown is within District 16 of the Texas Senate; currently represented by Don Huffines . [12]

Vickery Meadow is an ethnically-diverse neighborhood consisting almost exclusively of apartment complexes in North Dallas, Texas, United States. The Vickery Midtown Public Improvement District states the neighborhood is bounded by Northwest Highway, Royal Lane, Central Expressway, and Abrams. The City of Dallas Office of Economic Development states that the boundaries of the Vickery Meadow Tax Increment Financing district, which was established in 2005, are “the east side of the intersection of US 75 and Park Lane and extends eastward along Park Lane to the ‘Five Points’ intersection at Park Lane, Fair Oaks Avenue and Ridgecrest Road.” Leslie Minora of the Dallas Observer described it as "a dense swath of about 100 apartment complexes cradled by NorthPark Center and Whole Foods to the west and Half Price books [sic] to the south. It's an overlooked anthill, population 25,000, packed with people here by circumstance."

The development is just west of the Dallas North Tollway, approximately one mile north of I-635/LBJ Freeway between Midway Road and Marsh Lane in Addison's southwest quadrant. Adjacent to the community are Brookhaven Country Club, Brookhaven College, Greenhill School, Parish Episcopal School, and a shopping center including a full service Tom Thumb Grocery Store. In addition to being the largest development ever undertaken by major real estate developer UDR, Inc., the 117-acre (0.47 km2) development is also Addison's first major sustainable green initiative.

North Dallas Place in Texas, United States

North Dallas is an area of numerous communities and neighborhoods in Dallas, Texas. The phrase "North Dallas" is also sometimes used to include any suburb or exurb north of Dallas proper within the metropolitan area.
