Militsioner is an upcoming immersive sim video game for Microsoft Windows developed by Russian developer TallBoys and published by Critical Reflex.
The player takes control of a resident of an isolated Russian settlement, called simply "The Town", that is monitored by a giant policeman. The resident has led an unremarkable and inoffensive life, but one morning the resident is arrested and charged with an unspecified crime. Soon, the resident will be taken to court, put on trial for the unknown crime, and most likely convicted and imprisoned. The player's goal is to try to escape from The Town before the trial begins by acquiring a train ticket and taking a train out of The Town, which can be accomplished through various means including bargaining with other residents and stealing items to sell on the black market. The player must evade the policeman's intervention by either not committing any new crimes or committing them without being noticed. All the while, all other residents of The Town except for the Captain, the owner of the local shop, openly condemn the player for the unspecified crime. The player can use a microphone for talking in conversations, and can antagonize or even romance the giant policeman. [2]
When a trailer was published in September 2020 on Twitter it went viral. In the Russian-speaking media, it was criticized for being Russophobic and the giant policeman was compared to Uncle Styopa. [3] Game designer Vladimir Semenets said he does not want to create an evil image about police but wants to tell a story about life in Russia, he also mentioned issues about responsibility and power. [4]
Inspirations for Militsioner comes from the books Crime and Punishment , The Trial and films directed by Andrei Tarkovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov. [5]
A two-week open playtest of the game began on 20 August 2025. [6]
