Minister for Housing (Western Australia)

Minister for Housing is a position in the government of Western Australia, currently held by John Carey of the Labor Party. The position was first created after the 1947 state election, for the government of Sir Ross McLarty, and has existed in every government since then. The minister is responsible for the state government's Department of Communities, as well as several other government agencies.

Joseph Benedict Chifley was an Australian politician who served as the 16th prime minister of Australia from 1945 to 1949. He held office as the leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).

Henry Daglish Australian politician (1866–1920)

Henry Daglish was an Australian politician who was the sixth premier of Western Australia and the first from the Australian Labor Party, serving from 10 August 1904 to 25 August 1905. Born in Ballarat, Victoria, Daglish studied at the University of Melbourne. In 1882, he worked as a mechanical engineer, but soon switched to working in the Victorian public service. He first stood for election in 1896, but was unsuccessful in winning the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Melbourne South. He then moved to Subiaco, Western Australia, gaining work as a chief clerk in the WA Police Department. In 1900, Daglish was elected to the Subiaco Municipal Council. On 24 April 1901, Daglish was elected as the member for the newly created seat of Subiaco, becoming one of six Labor members in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. He was elected by the party as its whip, and he tendered his resignation from the Subiaco council on 1 May 1901. On 1 December 1902, he was sworn in as mayor of Subiaco, having been elected the previous month.

Kim Hames Australian politician

Kim Desmond Hames is an Australian politician who was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1993 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2017. He served as a minister in the governments of Richard Court and Colin Barnett, and was deputy premier to Barnett from 2008 to 2016. Hames retired from parliament at the 2017 state election.

The Minister for Local Government is a position in the Cabinet of Western Australia, first created in 1949 during the McLarty–Watts Ministry. John Newton Carey is an Australian politician. A member of the Australian Labor Party, Carey has been the member for Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Council, the lower house of the Parliament of Western Australia, since 11 March 2017. Since 19 March 2021, Carey has been the minister for housing and minister for local government. Since 21 December 2021, Carey has also been the minister for lands and minister for homelessness. From 19 October 2013 to 30 January 2017, he was the mayor of the City of Vincent.
