The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is one of the ministries of Qatar that provides free education from kindergarten to secondary school for all Qatari citizens. Education is also considered compulsory according to the law. The current minister is Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater. [1] [2]
In 2002, a decree was issued to establish the Supreme Education Council in Qatar as the supreme authority responsible for drawing up the educational policy of Qatar, for the education development plan and supervising its implementation, followed by the law establishing independent schools in 2006. All public schools were converted into independent schools in 2010. The idea of independent schools is based on the independence of school management in terms of curricula, attracting teachers, and spending with the supervision of the Supreme Education Council. The experience of independent schools continued until Law No. 9 of 2017 was issued regarding the organization of schools, after which the management of schools returned to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in full after the abolition of the independent school experience and the transformation of the Supreme Education Council into a ministry with a new structure. The educational system in Qatar is now based on three stages: primary (6 years), preparatory (3 years) and secondary (three years). The law also authorized the establishment of kindergartens from the age of four years. [3]

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani was the Emir of Qatar from 27 February 1972 until he was deposed by his son Hamad bin Khalifa in a coup on 27 June 1995.

The Supreme Education Council is a Qatari government agency responsible for education in Qatar. It was established in November 2002. At the time of its founding, it replaced the Ministry of Education, which has since had its responsibilities reduced to providing support for the country's private schools. Madinat Khalifa South is a north-western district of Qatari capital Doha. It is one of the two sections of Madinat Khalifa, the other being Madinat Khalifa North. The district was constructed in the 1970s by the Emir of Qatar at the time, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, primarily to serve as a residential district for Qatari families. Shortages of affordable housing in the district have fueled illegal construction practices such as constructing additional floors.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University is a public university located within Education City in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The university, a member of Qatar Foundation, was founded in 2010. The university began graduating students in 2014. It was named after Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of Qatar.
The al-Furqan Schools is a non-profit, boys-only educational complex offering classes in primary, preparatory, and secondary schools for grades 1-12 as well as an extracurricular activities club. The al-Furqan Schools are located in Doha, Qatar and were established in 1988. While the schools have been supported by the Qatari government, they have also been among the contributor to the Qatar-based Eid Charity, an organization which has been working in field of charity for years The leadership of the al-Furqan Schools has also been previously connected to a lot of charities

The COVID-19 pandemic in Qatar was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Qatar on 27 February 2020.
Lolwah Rashid Mohammed Al-Khater is the Qatari Minister of Education and Higher Education since 12 November 2024. She is a diplomat, who is the first Qatari woman to hold the position of Spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Assistant Foreign Minister of Qatar. Since March 2023, she has served as Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Umm Khalaf, also known by her birth name Moza Rashid Al Badr, is a Qatari storyteller, television presenter, writer, educator and researcher, best known for her efforts in preserving Qatar's heritage through her various media appearances.
