Mission of Dead Souls is a recording of the final performance of Throbbing Gristle before their initial breakup. The concert took place in San Francisco on 29 May 1981.

The album was originally released as part of the Fetish box set, consisting of four old albums and this album that was exclusive to the box, but when Mute Records picked up the Throbbing Gristle catalogue, this was one of the albums that was picked up, making this one of the most common Throbbing Gristle albums.

An official Betamax and VHS of this performance was recorded and released by Target Video on in the US on NTSC format in 1983. [2] This was later issued on DVD in the TGV box set.

The Desertshore Installation is a box set that was released by Throbbing Gristle. The 12-CDr set documents the recording sessions of the cover version of Nico's third studio album, Desertshore. These recordings were made as a document of TG's Desertshore Installation. These sessions were open to the public and a short question and answer session is included in the recordings. Each session lasted for approximately two hours and there were two sessions per day, an afternoon and an evening session. The box set only had one pressing.

The Grey Area is a Mute Records division founded in 1990 to restore and reissue the catalogue of artists who influenced Daniel Miller, head of Mute Records, and to reissue previous recordings of Mute artists. In 1983, Mute had to partner with Industrial Records for the reissue of Throbbing Gristle albums. This division was created following the partnerships signed with Can and Cabaret Voltaire.
