Mississippi Highway 403 (MS 403) is a state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 82 (US 82) and MS 15 in Mathiston, and it travels north away from the town. It then turns east near Natchez Trace Parkway and then travels below it. MS 403 ends at the intersection of Clarkson Road and Old US 82 near a county highway maintenance barn. The route was designated by 1960, after a paved road extending from Mathiston was constructed around 1958. An extension northwards to MS 50 and MS 341 existed from 1960 to 1967.

All of MS 403 is located in Webster County. [3] The route is legally defined in Mississippi Code § 65-3-3, [4] and it is maintained by Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) as part of the Mississippi State Highway System. [1]

MS 403 starts at an all-way stop intersection with US 82 and MS 15 in Mathiston, and it travels north as a continuation of Horton Street from MS 15. The route travels through a forested area within the town and intersects East Weber Drive south of the city limits. [5] [3] The road then intersects McComb and Shine Jewel roads north of the city limits and continues north to Old US 82 and Stallings Road, which leads to the Natchez Trace Parkway. MS 403 turns east at the intersection, traveling along Old US 82 and through an underpass at the parkway. The road crosses over Big Black River and meets Clarkson Road. [3] State maintenance ends near a county highway maintenance barn, [6] [1] and the road continues as Old US 82. [3]

History

Around 1958, a paved road was constructed from Mathiston to a point 1.3 miles (2.1 km) north of the town. [7] [8] By 1960, the road was then designated as MS 403, and it was extended northwards to the intersection of MS 50 and MS 341. [8] [9] MS 403 was then truncated to a point near the Natchez Trace Parkway by 1967. [10] [11]

Mississippi Highway 554 is a short highway near Natchez, Mississippi. The route starts at MS 555, and travels eastward. The road intersects the entrance to Natchez–Adams County Airport before ending at U.S. Route 61. The route was designated in 1957, and it included a separate route in southern Adams County. MS 554 was temporarily removed from the highway system in 1967, but was added back in 1973.

Mississippi Highway 306 is a state highway in northern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 51 in Coldwater, and it travels eastward to an interchange at Interstate 55 (I-55) on the northern edge of the town. The road continues eastward across northern Tate County and ends at MS 305 near Independence. MS 306 was designated in 1952, and it was constructed in 1953 from US 51 to MS 305. Mississippi Highway 607 is a state highway in the Mississippi Gulf Coast region. The route starts at U.S. Route 90, and it travels westward to Interstate 10 (I-10). The route has a gap as the road travels through the Stennis Space Center, but resumes north of the center to end at I-59 and US 11 south of Picayune. The road was part of US 11 and US 90, before MS 43 was designated in 1948. MS 607 was created in 1967, after MS 43 was rerouted, and Stennis Space Center was built.

Mississippi Highway 612 is a highway in southeastern Mississippi. The route starts at MS 613, southwest of Lucedale. It travels southeastward through George County, crossing over Escatawpa River. The route ends at the Alabama state line, and County Road 7 continues into Mobile County. MS 612 was designated in 1966, and no significant changes have been made to the route since.

Mississippi Highway 332 is a highway in central Mississippi. Its western terminus is at U.S. Route 51 in Grenada. The route travels northeastward through farmland to Grenada Municipal Airport. The road continues to its eastern terminus at Toe Road, southwest of the Grenada Lake. The designation was created in 1958 for a former segment of MS 7, which was rerouted north of the lake.

Mississippi Highway 498 is a state highway in eastern Mississippi. The highway starts at U.S. Route 45 near Porterville, and it travels eastward from its western terminus. One mile (1.6 km) later, MS 498 ends near a railroad crossing west of Porterville, and the road continues as Porterville–Alabama Road. The route was designated around 1957, from US 45 to the Alabama–Mississippi state line. MS 498 was truncated to Porterville by 1970.

Mississippi Highway 41 (MS 41) is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 45 and US 278 north of Wren and travels westwards. It then intersects US 45 Alt. east of Okolona. The road enters Okolona, and intersects MS 32 and MS 245. MS 41 then turns northwest and travels toward Pontotoc. Once inside the city, the route turns north at MS 15 and travels through downtown Pontotoc. MS 41 ends at its intersection with MS 9 and MS 338. The route that became MS 41 was first used as an Indian trail. The route was designated by 1932 from Amory to Pontotoc, and it was truncated from Amory to US 45 by 1955. Mississippi Highway 388 is a state highway in eastern Mississippi. The route starts at the intersection of U.S. Route 45 Alternate and MS 852 in Brooksville, and it travels east to US 45 soon after. The route intersects MS 792 near Cliftonville, and it ends at Alabama State Route 86 at the Alabama–Mississippi state line. Mississippi Highway 552 (MS 552) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Mississippi that travels through Claiborne and Jefferson counties.
