Mitoscelis is a monotypic genus of long-jawed orb-weavers containing the single species, Mitoscelis aculeata. It was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890 from a female found on Java. [2] [1]
Liocranidae is a family of araneomorph spiders first described by Eugène Simon in 1897. They are one of several groups called "sac spiders". The holarctic genus Agroeca is the most well known, but it also includes various genera of more obscure spiders that still lack a diagnosis. Two species in the North American genus Neoanagraphis are found in the extremely dry conditions in the Mojave, Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts. Females live in animal burrows while males wander and are the ones most often caught in pitfall traps.
Myrmarachne is a genus of ant-mimicking jumping spiders that was first described by W. S. MacLeay in 1839. They are commonly called antmimicking spiders, but they are not the only spiders that have this attribute. The name is a combination of Ancient Greek μύρμηξ (myrmex), meaning "ant", and ἀράχνη (arachne), meaning "spider".
Chrysilla is a genus of jumping spiders that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1887. Several species formerly placed here were transferred to Phintella, and vice versa. Females are 3 to 4 millimetres long, and males are 4 to 9 millimetres long. The genus is Persian, derived from the Greek Χρύσιλλα.
Nicylla is a monotypic genus of Sumatran jumping spiders containing the single species, Nicylla sundevalli. It was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890, and is only found on Sumatra. Briefly considered a synonym of Thiania, it was elevated back to genus status in 2017.
Thiania is a genus of jumping spiders that was first described by Carl Ludwig Koch in 1846.
Gelotia is a genus of jumping spiders that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890.
Trechaleidae is a family of araneomorph spiders first described by Eugène Simon in 1890, and includes about 140 described species in 16 genera. They all live in Central and South America except for Shinobius orientalis, which is endemic to Japan.
Badumna is a genus of intertidal spiders that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890. They are harmless spiders that can be found around human structures and buildings. They are darkly colored, usually with a lighter colored pattern on the abdomen. The most well-known species is B. insignis, also known as the "black house spider" or "black window spider".
Pacullidae is a family of araneomorph spiders first described by Eugène Simon in 1894. It was merged into Tetrablemmidae in 1958, then raised back to family status after a large phylogenetic study in 2017.
Matidia is a genus of southeast Asian sac spiders first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1878.
Acantheis is a genus of Asian wandering spiders first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1891.
Conothele is a genus of mygalomorph spiders in the Halonoproctidae family, first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1878. Originally placed with the Ctenizidae, it was moved to the Halonoproctidae in 2018.
Perania is a genus of Asian araneomorph spiders in the Pacullidae family that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890. It is considered a senior synonym of Mirania.
Orsinome is a genus of long-jawed orb-weavers that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890. It is included in the Nanometa clade, defined by nine morphological synapomorphies, along with Eryciniolia and Nanometa.
Cnodalia is a genus of Asian orb-weaver spiders first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890.
Milonia is a genus of Southeast Asian orb-weaver spiders first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890.
Angaeus is a genus of Asian crab spiders first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1881. It is considered a senior synonym of Paraborboropactus.
Orcevia is a genus of Asian jumping spiders that was first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1890. It was once considered a synonym of Laufeia, but it was revalidated in 2019.
Heteropoda sumatrana is a species of spiders in the genus Heteropoda, family Sparassidae, found in Indonesia. It was first described by Thorell in 1890.
