The Mizoram College Teachers' Association (MCTA) is a governmental, non-political and non-profit organisation for college teachers under the Government of Mizoram, India. It was established by a conference of college teachers on 7 September 1979 at Aizawl, which became its headquarters. The organisation is recognised by the Government of Mizoram, and consists of 21 government colleges and 1 grant-in-aid college. [1]

Contents

Membership is exclusively to those teachers working in the college or other higher education institute under the Government of Mizoram, and who were recruited under the norms of the University Grants Commission (India). [2]

Aims and objectives

The aims and objectives of MCTA are: [1] [2]

  1. to ensure quality education in Mizoram
  2. to cooperate with the government in the promotion of higher & technical Education
  3. to safeguard and promote common interests of college teachers, and to inculcate among the teachers the spirit of cooperation.

Membership

MCTA opens membership to teachers of higher education under the Government of Mizoram, but only those appointed according to the norms of UGC. Enrolment requires a fee of INR 100, and annual fee of INR 50. Membership ceases on death, retirement, transfer to other post, and failure to pay fee. Every member is also imposed to contribute a welfare fund of INR 100 and condolence fund of INR 300 annually. [3]

Membership to Mizoram University

MCTA represent the state government colleges to the Academic Council of Mizoram University, under which all member branches are affiliated. Currently, President Thanglura, Vice-President J.H. Zoremthanga, and General Secretary P.L. Ramliana are the representatives. [5]

Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) is a Special Unit in the Police Department and one of India's State Armed Police Forces of Ministry of Home in the State of Mizoram, India. At present it comprises 3 Battalions with an additional 3 Indian Reserve Battalions. Each Battalion is Commanded by a Commandant with other officers.

New Serchhip is the northern extension of Serchhip Town in Mizoram State of India. It was created and inhabited since 1976.

Government degree colleges in India are public-sector educational institutes managed primarily through rules and regulations of government accompanied by University Grants Commission (India) (UGC). Education in India has been categorized into elementary, secondary and higher education. The aim behind the formation of the government degree colleges is to provide higher education to undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral research scholars in various streams and courses recognized by UGC of India. Presently, the standards have been set up for the classifications of the institutes in 2 (f) and 12 (b) category, which is certified by the UGC, New Delhi to maintain the excellence in higher education. The government degree colleges are fully managed by government, either central or at state level, and affiliated to the universities for course structures. Moreover, the government degree college as the institute of higher education, are administered and controlled by the principal, who serves as the head. Teachers are appointed through Public Service Commissions of central and state governments. The teachers appointed through the public service commissions are government servants with Group A post and are gazetted in nature. Education is the matter of concurrent lists in India; the government from the centre or from the states has the right to formulate law on higher education.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mizo Zirlai Pawl</span>

Mizo Zirlai Pawl is a Mizo multinational student organization and apex students body in Mizoram state. Established on 27 October 1935 in Shillong by Mizo earlier educated students. Originally as the Lushai Students Association (LSA), which was later replaced with the "Mizo Zirlai Pawl" on 1 September 1946. As Mizoram State government notified MZP raising day 27 October was observed as "Zirlaite Ni" from 2008 in Mizoram. It was registered as SR No. 35 of 1969–70 under Indian Societies Registration Act. Its general headquarters is in the state capital of Mizoram, Aizawl. And it has 12 headquarters inside and outside of Mizoram state, such as Churachandpur, Behliangchhip, and in Mizoram state - Serchhip, Biate, Champhai, Darlawn, Kolasib, Mamit, Zawlnuam, Saitual, Lunglei and Khawzawl. It has 50 Sub-Headquarters and many branches.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Education in Mizoram</span>

Education in Mizoram consists of a diverse array of formal education systems ranging from elementary to university, from training institution to technical courses. The Government of India imposes mandatory education at least up to the basic level. For this public schools are made free of fees, and provided with free textbooks and school lunch.

Mizoram is a land of rolling hills, valleys, rivers, and lakes in Northeast India. As many as 21 major hill ranges or peaks of different heights run through the length and breadth of the state, with plains scattered here and there. The average height of the hills to the west of the state is about 1,000 metres. These gradually rise to 1,300 metres to the east. Some areas, however, have higher ranges which go up to a height of over 2,000 metres.

Government Lawngtlai College is the only institute of higher education in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, northeast India. It was established by public demand in 1980 in Lawngtlai. It became a government college under the Government of Mizoram in 1988.

Aizawl is the capital of the state of Mizoram in India. Aizawl was officially established on 25 February 1890. With a population of 293,416, it is the largest city in the state. It is also the centre of administration containing all the important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat. The population of Aizawl strongly reflects the different communities of the ethnic Mizo people.

Hnahthial district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The creation of Hnahthial District was first notified on 12 September 2008 but until 2020, it remained non-functional despite a number of promises made by top political leaders and an all-out effort by Hnahthial District Function Demand Committee to let the state government make it functional. Hnahthial district was made functional only 12 years later on 3 June 2019 with the creation of the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Islam is Mizoram's third largest religion. With 14,832 followers, it constituted 1.35% of the population in 2011. The Aijal Mosque, established in 1909, is the only mosque in Aizawl and the oldest mosque in Mizoram.
