Government Lawngtlai College is the only institute of higher education in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, northeast India. It was established by public demand in 1980 in Lawngtlai. It became a government college under the Government of Mizoram in 1988.
The college is a branch member of the Mizoram College Teachers' Association, [1] and the Red Ribbon Club of the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society. [2]
Government Lawngtlai College was established by the people of Lai Autonomous District Council in 1980. It was upgraded to deficit status on 1 July 1988. It was originally affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University, but the jurisdiction was transferred to Mizoram University, when the university was established in 2001. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (India). [3]
Government Lawngtlai College is located in the southern region of Mizoram, 300 km away from Aizawl, the capital city of the state. The college is ideally situated on a hillock within Lawngtlai town. It has an approach road of 700 m (approximately) branching off the main National Highway No. 54.
Mizoram is a state in northeastern India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. Pachhunga University College (PUC) is a public institute in Aizawl, Mizoram, and the only constituent college of Mizoram University, a central university established by an Act of Parliament of India. Founded in 1958 as Aijal College, it is the oldest and largest college in Mizoram, by enrolment and campus size. It started with intermediate of arts courses, and later expanded to bachelor degrees in arts, commerce and science. With the opening of master's degree courses in Mizo, philosophy and life sciences, it became the first postgraduate college in Mizoram.
Chakma language is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Chakma and Daingnet people. The language has common features with other languages in the region like the Chittagonian dialect of Bengali language, Tanchangya, Arakanese and others. It is spoken by nearly 320,000 people in southeast Bangladesh in Chittagong Hill Tracts, and another 230,000 in India, including 96,972 in Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. It is written using the Chakma script, which is also called Ajhā Pāṭh, sometimes romanised Ojhopath. Literacy in Chakma script is low.
Lunglei district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. As of 2011 it is the second most populous district in the state, after Aizawl. It is also the largest district in Mizoram with an area of 4,572 km2(1,765 sq mi).

Government degree colleges in India are public-sector educational institutes managed mainly through rule and regulations of government accompanied by University Grants Commission (India) (UGC). Education in India has been categorized into elementary, secondary and higher education. The aim behind the formation of the government degree colleges is to provide higher education to undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral research scholars in various streams and courses recognized by UGC of India. Presently, the standards have been set up for the classifications of the institutes in 2 (f) and 12 (b) category, which is certified by the UGC, New Delhi to maintain the excellence in higher education. The government degree colleges are fully managed by government, either central or at state level, and affiliated to the universities for course structures. Moreover, the government degree college as the institute of higher education, are administered and controlled by the principal who serves as the head. Teachers are appointed through Public Service Commissions of central and state governments. The teachers appointed through the public service commissions are government servants with Group A post and are gazetted in nature. Education is the matter of concurrent lists in India; the government from the centre or from the states has the right to formulate law on higher education.
Government Saiha College is the only college in Saiha district of Mizoram, northeast India. It is the first college in southern Mizoram. It was established in 1978 as a result of public demand, and recognised by the Government of Mizoram in 1979. It started as only arts college. It is now under the jurisdiction of the Mizoram University and under recognition of the University Grants Commission (India).
Education in Mizoram consists of a diverse array of formal education systems ranging from elementary to university, from training institution to technical courses. The Government of India imposes mandatory education at least up to the basic level. For this public schools are made free of fees, and provided with free textbooks and school lunch.
The Mizoram College Teachers' Association (MCTA) is a governmental, non-political and non-profit organisation for college teachers under the Government of Mizoram, India. It was established by a conference of college teachers on 7 September 1979 at Aizawl, which became its headquarters. The organisation is recognised by the Government of Mizoram, and consists of 21 government colleges and 1 grant-in-aid college.
The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) is an autonomous governmental body for academic administration in Mizoram, India, having its jurisdiction from elementary to higher secondary education. It was established by the Government of Mizoram in 1975 by the Mizoram Board of School Education Act. It has the power to regulate, supervise and control school education in Mizoram. Its primary function is to prepare academic programmes and organise examinations, especially for state level High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC). From 2012, the board also conducts State Technical Entrance Examination (STEE) for entry into technical courses such as engineering, medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, nursing, homoeopathy, and dentistry.
Government Hnahthial College is the only institute of higher education in Hnahthial, Hnahthial district of Mizoram, Northeast India. It was established in 1979 in Hnahthial. It became a government college under the Government of Mizoram in 1981. Under governmental organisation of Mizoram, it operates as a branch of the Mizoram College Teachers' Association.
Government Aizawl North College is an educational institution located in Ramhlun Venglai, the northern part of Aizawl, Mizoram. The college is affiliated with Mizoram University As of 2014, it has 1120 students. The college's principal is Prof. S. Haukhanlian Mate. The College at present has 1,309 students, 28 teachers and 12 non-teaching staff.
Government Kolasib College is an undergraduate college of Mizoram state in India located at Kolasib. It is a coeducation institute governed by the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Education & Human Resources Department, Government of Mizoram. It is affiliated to the Mizoram University, a central university under University Grants Commission of India. Established in 1978, it is nationally recognised under 2(f) and 12-B of the U.G.C. Act, 1956.
