Aizawl College is a college in Aizawl, Mizoram, India. It is accredited with B+ Grade by NAAC [1] and has 445 students currently studying in the college. [2]

History

Established as ‘Aizawl College’ in 1975 by a team of philanthropic citizens meeting at the Office chamber of the then Legislative Assembly Speaker, Dr. H.Thansanga, on the 13 January 1975, Aizawl College (later renamed Government Aizawl College following its take-over by the State Government) was formally inaugurated by Pu Ch. Chhunga, the first Chief Minister of Mizoram. Classes started on the evening of 25 August 1975 with 350 students of Pre University Class and six Lecturers. It was up graded to Deficit Grant-in-aid status with effect from 1 November 1984 and became Government on 1 January 1989. The College was included under section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 [3] and section 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 with effect from 17 March 1987. While affiliated to the NEHU, the college was one of the prominent members of the NEHU family. It is now affiliated to Mizoram University.

Aizawl College was at Sikulpuikawn, Mission Veng, It has been shifted to Mualpui near Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Aizawl) with an area of 12471.50 square miles. The Commerce building block, Cafetaria and Students' Common Room were inaugurated in 2018. [4]

The College has two stream – Arts and Commerce with eight different disciplines under Arts Stream.

The Government Champhai College is a government university college associated with Mizoram University, located in Champhai, Mizoram, in India. Tumkur University was established in 2004 in Tumkuru, Karnataka, India. It was carved out of Bangalore University to accommodate the needs of the students from Tumkuru district. Established under the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000, as a multi-faculty university, it has 12 postgraduate departments, 2 constituent colleges and 94 affiliated colleges. It established 29 research centres to promote advanced multi-disciplinary research and academic collaborations. In 2012, the university was recognized under section 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956. Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College is the only institution that offers purely science education in the State of Mizoram. It is graded A by NAAC and has students 911 currently studying in the college.

Government Aizawl West College is an educational institution located in Dawrpui Vengthar, Aizawl, Mizoram. It is currently affiliated with Mizoram University.

J Thankima College is located at Bawngkawn, Aizawl, Mizoram. It is one of the top ranked college in Mizoram with NAAC A+ grade.

Lunglei Government College is the biggest college in the town of Lunglei, Mizoram. It is graded B++ by NAAC. Talks are underway now with UGC to set up Mizoram University campus in Lunglei Government College campus, thus making it a constituent college of Mizoram University like Pachhunga University College. The College has 1250 students and 63 Faculty.
