He served as the Minister of Home Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities and Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government in the BN administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018 as well as Senator from September 2000 to September 2006. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Tengku Azlan ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’azzam Shah is a Malaysian politician who was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia (MP) for the Jerantut constituency in Pahang from 1999 to 2013. The Malaysian United Indigenous Party, abbreviated BERSATU or PPBM, is a nationalist political party in Malaysia. The party was preceded by the United Indigenous Association of Malaysia. It is a major component party within the Perikatan Nasional coalition. BERSATU was approved and registered on 14 January 2017 by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) and the use of the BERSATU logo was authorized by the Malaysian Election Commission (SPR). The party held the Prime Ministerial position as well as the majority of positions in the cabinet from May 2020 to August 2021. The party's founding members came from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and Barisan Nasional rebel group Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia in 2016.
Ahmad Faizal bin Azumu, nicknamed Peja, is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of Youth and Sports in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration in August 2021, 12th and 13th Menteri Besar of Perak from May 2018 to his first resignation in March 2020 and again from March 2020 to his second resignation in December 2020. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tambun and Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Chenderiang from May 2018 to November 2022. He is a member, Deputy President and State Chairman of Perak and Pahang of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN and formerly Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalitions. He also served as the 2nd State Chairman of PN and BERSATU of Negeri Sembilan from May 2023 to February and January 2024 respectively. He was also the State Chairman of PH of Perak. He was one of the only two state leaders of Malaysia who has led state administrations of two different and opposing political coalitions alongside Mukhriz Mahathir.
The 14th Perak State election was held on 9 May 2018. The previous state election was held on 5 May 2013. Each of the state assemblymen are elected to a five-year term each.
Dato' Eddin Syazlee bin Shith is a Malaysian politician who served as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Economic Affairs in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Mustapa Mohamed from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Deputy Minister of Works in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Fadillah Yusof from July 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Parliament and Law in the PN administration under Muhyiddin and former Minister Takiyuddin Hassan from March 2020 to July 2020, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Saifuddin Abdullah from July 2018 to February 2020 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuala Pilah from May 2018 to November 2022. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN and formerly PH coalitions. He has served as the 1st State Advisor of PN of Negeri Sembilan since February 2024. He served as the 1st State Chairman of PN and BERSATU of Negeri Sembilan from January 2021 and September 2020 to his removal from the position in May 2023 respectively.
Labu is a state constituency in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly. It has been represented by Leader of the Opposition Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker since 2023.

The political crisis culminated in a 2022 snap general election and eventual formation of a coalition government.
The National Alliance is a political coalition composed of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party, Malaysian Islamic Party, Malaysian People's Movement Party, Sabah Progressive Party and Malaysian Indian People's Party This coalition was preceded by the Malaysian Party Alliance Association, also known as the Persatuan Perikatan Parti Malaysia (PPPM). She is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and was an independent as well as member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the BN coalition. She has served as Member of the Supreme Council of BERSATU since January 2024. She is also the sister-in-law of Ahmad Faizal.
Abdul Yunus bin Jamahri is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kuala Kurau since March 2008. He served as Member of the Perak State Executive Council (EXCO) for the third term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad from December 2020 to November 2022, the second term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state administration under former Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu from March to the collapse of the PN state administration in December 2020 as well as the first term in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under Ahmad Faizal from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH state administration in March 2020. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition.
A by-election was held on 29 August 2020 for the seat of Slim in the Perak State Legislative Assembly. The seat fell vacant following the sudden death of the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, Mohd. Khusairi Abdul Talib, 59, due to a heart attack on 15 July 2020. He had held the seat for four terms since 2004.
The Homeland Fighter's Party is a Malay-based political party of Malaysia, formed in August 2020 by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in opposition to then ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by Prime Minister, Chairman of PN and President of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) Muhyiddin Yassin.
A vote of no confidence in the Malaysian state of Perak National Alliance–National Front (PN–BN) government of Ahmad Faizal Azumu occurred on 4 December 2020. The 'vote of confidence' was initially brought by Abdul Manap Hashim before being called for by the Leader of the Opposition Abdul Aziz Bari and supported by Maslin Sham Razman. The vote was subsequently lost by the PN–BN Government by thirty eight votes, which was announced at 11:13 am. The result did not, however, necessarily mandate a general election as the outgoing Perak chief minister has the option of advising the Sultan of Perak to dissolve the assembly or, alternatively, appoint an assemblyman who he deems to command the majority. Faizal later confirmed that he would not advise the sultan to dissolve the Perak State Legislative Assembly as the "current situation is not conducive for an election" due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. This was the fourth instance in which a Malaysian head of government of a state or territory was ousted from office through a confidence vote.
Mohd Suhaimi bin Abdullah is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Langkawi since November 2022. He served as the Senator from May 2014 to May 2017 and again from August 2017 to August 2020. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalitions and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He is the State Chairman of BERSATU of Kedah. On 28 November 2018, Mohd Suhaimi left UMNO for BERSATU.
State elections in 2023 were held in Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Penang on 12 August 2023, following the dissolution of their state assemblies between 22 June and 1 July 2023.
The 2024 Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was a by-election for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly seat of Kuala Kubu Baharu that was held on 11 May 2024. It was called following the death of incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong on 21 March 2024 of cancer. Lee has served as Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Kuala Kubu Baharu, serving since 2013 for three terms. It is the first Selangor state by-election since the 2023 Selangor state election.
