Mohammad Abdul Momen

Mohammad Abdul Momen is a Bangladeshi retired civil servant and current chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission. [1] [2] Previously he served as the secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. [3] He was appointed after the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina and he sent a number of police officers into retirement after his appointment. [4] [5] [6] He is a member of the board of governors of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies. [7]

Career

Momen joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1982. [8]

Momen was sent to forced retirement on 6 June 2013. [8]

Momen was appointed Secretary of the Public Security Division on 18 August 2024 after the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government fell. [9] At the same time four others were made contractual secretaries, Sheikh Abdur Rashid in the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ehchanul Haque in Roads and Highways Department, Nasimul Gani in Public Department of President Mohammed Shahabuddin's Office, and M. A. Akmal Hossain Azad in Ministry of Railway. [9] He replaced Md Mokabbir Hossain who was transferred to the Ministry of Science and Technology after serving three days as Secretary of the Public Security Division. [8] [10] At the same time the advisor in charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs was changed from Brigadier General M. Sakhawat Hossain to Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. [10]

Momen sent three senior police officers, Mohammad Ali Miah, Mahbubur Rahman, and Joydeb Kumar Bhadra, into forced retirement. [11] In September, he sent sent nine more police officers, AKM Hafiz Akhtar, Bashir Ahmed, Devdas Bhattacharya, Khandker Lutful Kabir, Mir Rezaul Alam, Imam Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir, Dadon Fakir, Shamim or Rashid Talukder, and Rafiqul Islam, into forced retirement. [12] He then sent Krishna Pada Roy, Md Mozammel Haque, and Sarder Rakibul Islam into retirement. [13] He sent three more police officers, Harun Ur Rashid, Shahabuddin Khan, and Kh Mahid Uddin, into forced retirement in October. [14] He rehired five police officers, Abdullah Al Mamun, Ali Hossain Khan, Delwar Hossain Mia, Nazmul Karim Khan, and Zillur Rahman, who were sent to retirement by the previous Awami League government. The Jail Killing refers to the murder of four leaders of the Awami League political party in Bangladesh by army officers who carried out a coup d'état there on 15 August 1975. M Khurshid Hossain is a Bangladeshi retired police officer and former director general of the Rapid Action Battalion. He is the former additional inspector general of Police Headquarters. Prior to that, he was DIG of Police Headquarters.

Sheikh Hemayet Hossain Mia is a retired Bangladeshi police officer and former head of the Criminal Investigation Department. Earlier, he served as an Additional Inspector General of Police at the Armed Police Battalion.

Mohammed Shahabuddin natively known as Chuppu, is a Bangladeshi jurist, civil servant and politician who has served as the 16th and current president of Bangladesh since 2023. He was elected unopposed in the 2023 presidential election as the nominee of the ruling Awami League. Prior to his presidency, Shahabuddin served as a district and sessions judge and a commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission from 2011 to 2016.

Md Mozammel Haque is Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.

Md Mokbul Hossain is a retired Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary. He was sent into forced retirement before his tenure ended citing public interest.

Md. Nojibur Rahman is a retired civil servant and former chairman of the National Board of Revenue. He is the chairman of Capital Market Stabilization Fund. He is the former Principal Secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Md. Harun Ar Rashid is a Bangladeshi retired police officer who served as director general of the Rapid Action Battalion for a brief period. He was previously additional inspector general (HRM) of the Police Headquarters.

Proloy Kumar Joarder is a Bangladeshi police officer and superintendent of police of Jessore District. He is considered an "influential officer" in the Bangladesh Police headquarters.

Md Mokabbir Hossain is the senior secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology and former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier, he was chairman of Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council. He also served as managing director and chief executive officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Sheikh Abdur Rashid is a Bangladeshi government official who has served as the chairman of Petrobangla and additional secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. In 2024, the Yunus Interim Government brought him back from retirement as secretary in the Department of Secondary and Higher Education. Later, he was promoted to the position of secretary and is currently serving as the 25th Cabinet Secretary of Bangladesh.

Md Aminul Islam Khan is a retired Bangladeshi civil servant and former senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was the secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. He was arrested and charged with murder of the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government.

Nasimul Gani is the Secretary of the Public Department of the President's Office of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. He is the former private secretary of the speaker of the parliament Jamiruddin Sircar.

M. A. Akmal Hossain Azad is secretary of the Health Services Division and former secretary of the Ministry of Railways. He was appointed on a contractual basis after the fall of the Awami League government.

Md. Akther Hossain is a retired civil servant and former senior secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was the principal coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) affairs in the Prime Minister's Office when Sheikh Hasina was prime minister.

Safar Raj Hossain is a retired civil servant, former Home Affairs Secretary, and chairman of the Police Administration Reform Commission formed by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. He is a former director general of the office of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. He is the former secretary of the Local Government Division.

Md Jahangir Alam is the former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was forced into retirement and detained after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government. He is a former secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
