Haji Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut (born 29 September 1957) was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Kuala Terengganu constituency in Terengganu (2009 to 2013) the Member of the State Assembly of Terengganu for the seat of Wakaf Mempelam (1990 to 2018),sitting as a member of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). Abdul Wahid—an ally of PAS leader Abdul Hadi Awang—was elected to Federal Parliament in a by-election for Kuala Terengganu on 17 January 2009 after the death of the incumbent member from the governing Barisan Nasional coalition. [3] Abdul Wahid won the seat by a margin of 2,631 votes. [4]
Abdul Wahid served in the State Assembly of Terengganu since 1990 until 2018. [5] He was a member of the Executive Council before PAS' defeat in the 2004 election. [6]

Abdul Hadi bin Awang is a Malaysian politician and religious teacher who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Marang since October 1990,7th President of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS),an Islamist political party and a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition,since July 2002. He served as Leader of the Opposition from July 2002 to March 2004,Menteri Besar of Terengganu from December 1999 to March 2004 and Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ru Rendang from 1986 until 2018. At the international level,he formerly served as vice-president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.
Kuala Terengganu by-election of 2009 was held on 17 January 2009 after the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament,Razali Ismail. In the 2008 election,Datuk Razali won by a slim 628 vote majority,defeating Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) heavyweight Mohamad Sabu and 89-year-old independent candidate,Maimun Yusuf. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Barisan Nasional were confident that Barisan Nasional would retain the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat. The Prime Minister had rejected the assumption that there would be a big swing by the voters to the Opposition. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim stated that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) would support any candidate that PAS picked. He was optimistic that Pakatan Rakyat would win in Kuala Terengganu if all its coalition parties worked hard against Barisan Nasional. In the 2008 election Razali,a government minister of the UMNO party,defeated a PAS opposition candidate by 628 votes. For the by-election PAS nominated state assemblyman Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut,while Barisan Nasional nominated Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh. Mohd Abdul won the by-election by 2,631 votes.
