Haji Mohmad Haneefa Jan (born 1969) is an Indian politician from Kargil serving as a member of the Lok Sabha representing the only constituency of the union territory of Ladakh.
In the 2023 Kargil election,Haneefa ran against Khadim Hussain for the Barro constituency in the LAHDC Kargil,in which he lost by 66 votes. [2] In the 2024 general election,Haneefa ran for the Ladakh constituency as an independent. He won that seat and was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha,having defeated two other candidates Tsering Namgyal and Tashi Gyalson,both in whom represented the INC and BJP respectively. [3] [4]
Leh district is a district in Indian-administered Ladakh in the disputed Kashmir-region. Ladakh is an Indian-administered union territory. With an area of 45,110 km2,it is the second largest district in the country,second only to Kutch. It is bounded on the north by Gilgit-Baltistan's Kharmang and Ghanche districts and Xinjiang's Kashgar Prefecture and Hotan Prefecture,to which it connects via the historic Karakoram Pass. Aksai Chin and Tibet are to the east,Kargil district to the west,and Lahul and Spiti to the south. The district headquarters is in Leh. It lies between 32 and 36 degree north latitude and 75 to 80 degree east longitude.

The 18th Lok Sabha was formed after general elections were held in India over seven phases from 19 April to 1 June 2024,to elect all members from 543 constituencies of the Lok Sabha. The votes were counted,and the results were declared on 4 June 2024. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the majority seats with 240,followed by the Indian National Congress (INC) with 99 seats. With the required absolute majority being 272 seats,having 293 seats,the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition formed the government.
