Montmorency railway station is a commuter railway station on the Hurstbridge line, which is part of the Melbourne railway network. It serves the north-eastern suburb of Montmorency, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Montmorency station is a ground level premium station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 5 September 1923, with the current station provided in 2023. [5]
Montmorency station opened twenty-one years after the railway line from Heidelberg was extended to Hurstbridge. [5] Like the suburb itself, the station was named after a local farm, the Montmorency Estate, itself named after the French town Montmorency, Val-d'Oise. [6] [7]
In the lead-up to the 2018 state election, the opposition Liberal Party promised A$300m to duplicate the line between Greensborough and Eltham, and provide Montmorency with a second platform. [8]
On 15 May 2019, the Level Crossing Removal Project announced that planning for the duplication of 3 kms of track between Greensborough and Eltham was underway. Final designs of the new station were released on 9 February 2021, [9] with early work of the project commencing in late 2021, with major construction started in 2022. [10] The station was rebuilt approximately 100 m (330 ft) west of the current station, and included a new platform. [11] [12] On 30 April 2023, the rebuilt station opened. [1]
Montmorency has two side platforms. It is located between Were Street and Mayona Road, with station access from both. There are sheltered waiting areas on both platforms, two myki top up machines, six myki touch on/off stands and a "pod" for Protective Services Officers.

The Hurstbridge line is a commuter railway line in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Operated by Metro Trains Melbourne, it is the city's seventh longest metropolitan railway line at 36.7 kilometres (22.8 mi). The line runs from Flinders Street Station in central Melbourne to Hurstbridge Station in the north-east, serving 28 stations via Clifton Hill, Heidelberg, Macleod, Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek. The line operates for approximately 19 hours a day with 24 hour service available on Friday and Saturday nights. During peak hour, headways of up to 15 minutes are operated with services every 20–30 minutes during off-peak hours. Trains on the Hurstbridge Line run with a two three-car formations of X'Trapolis 100 trainsets.
