Moolakothalam is a neighbourhood in Chennai district of Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] Moolakothalam has a dry fish market which functions for more than 50 years. [6]

Moolakothalam is located at an altitude of about  m above the mean sea level with the geographical coordinates of 13°06′25″N80°16′26″E / 13.107000°N 80.273800°E / 13.107000; 80.273800 . [7]

There is a 120-year-old burial ground in Moolakothalam. [8] The burial ground is a historical site of the final resting place of anti-Hindi agitation leaders viz., Natarajan and Thalamuthu. Also, there is a memorial erected, for social activist cum reformer S. Dharmambal, in Moolakothalam. [9] The surface area of this burial ground is of 20 acres. [10] There is a proposal of State Government of Tamil Nadu, to construct a multi-storey apartment complex near the burial ground of Moolakothalam, for the welfare of Adi-dravida people living there. [11] Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance board makes necessary steps to acquire a part of the burial ground here for this purpose, even though some political parties such as MDMK, CPM and VCK, oppose this. [12] The project cost of the proposed 1,044 dwelling units to be built with all modern amenities, is estimated to about ₹138.29 crore. [13] Murthy Vinayagar Temple located in Moolakothalam is under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. [14]

Palar is a river of southern India. It rises in the Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka state, and flows 93 kilometres (58 mi) in Karnataka, 33 kilometres (21 mi) in Andhra Pradesh and 222 kilometres (138 mi) in Tamil Nadu before reaching its confluence into the Bay of Bengal at Vayalur about 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Chennai. It flows as an underground river for a long distance only to emerge near Bethamangala town, from where, gathering water and speed, it flows eastward down the Deccan Plateau. The Towns of Bethamangala, Santhipuram, Kuppam, Ramanaickenpet, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Melpatti, Gudiyatham, Pallikonda, Anpoondi, Melmonavoor, Vellore, Katpadi, Melvisharam, Arcot, Ranipet, Walajapet, Kanchipuram, Walajabad, Chengalpattu, Kalpakkam, and Lattur are located on the banks of the Palar River. Of the seven tributaries, the chief tributary is the Cheyyar River.

Avadi is a Municipal Corporation within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, located in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India, about 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Chennai Central Railway Station. It is surrounded by major defence establishments and is home to various universities and engineering colleges. The city is served by Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. As of 2011, Avadi had a population of 345,996, which is 10th most populous place in Tamil Nadu. It is home to the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Ordnance Factory Board (ODF) which houses Engine Factory and Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). The lake in Avadi was known as Paaleripattu, which is now found only in very old land documents.

Muthiah Annamalai Chidambaram Stadium, commonly known as the Chepauk Stadium, is a cricket stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1916, it is the second oldest cricket stadium in the country after Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Formerly known as Madras Cricket Club Ground, the stadium is named after M. A. Chidambaram Chettiar, former president of BCCI and Head of TNCA. It is the home ground of the Tamil Nadu cricket team and the Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings. Chepauk hosted its first Test match on 10 February 1934, the first Ranji Trophy match in 1936 and the Indian cricket team's first test victory in 1952 against England. The 1986 India-Australia match held at Chepauk was only the second ever Tied Test in the history of the game.

Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is a protected area and tiger reserve located along the area straddling both the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats in the Erode District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Sathyamangalam Forest Division is part of the Bramhagiri-Nilgiris-Eastern Ghats Elephant Reserve notified in 2003. In 2008, part of the Sathyamangalam Forest Division was declared as a wildlife sanctuary and enlarged in 2011, it covers a forest area of 1,411.6 km2 (545.0 sq mi). It is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu. In 2013, an area of 1,408.6 km2 (543.9 sq mi) of the erstwhile sanctuary was notified as a tiger reserve. It was the fourth tiger reserve established in Tamil Nadu as a part of Project Tiger and is the third largest in the state.

The Tamil Nadu football team is an Indian football team representing Tamil Nadu in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals twice, in 1972–73 and 2012, and have never won. Tamil Nadu team reached semi-finals of the Santosh Trophy in 2009, where they lost to Goa. Prior to 1972, the team competed as Madras football team. This team has never won.

Chennai, with historically rich records dating at least from the time of the Pallavas, houses 2,467 heritage buildings within its metropolitan area (CMA), the highest within any metropolitan area limit in India. Most of these buildings are around 200 years old and older. Chennai is home to the second largest collection of heritage buildings in the country, after Kolkata. The official list of heritage buildings was compiled by the Justice E. Padmanabhan committee. The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed the Heritage Commission Act in 2012 to preserve old heritage structures.

Chennai–Thiruvallur High Road, formerly known as Madras–Thiruvallur High Road, is one of the chief routes connecting the northwestern suburbs of Chennai, India. Starting from Padi Junction, the road connects the neighbourhoods of Padi, Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyil, Avadi, Pattabiram, Thirunindravur, and Thiruvallur. Samathuvapuram officially Periyar Ninaivu Samathuvapuram is a social equality scheme of the Government of Tamil Nadu to improve social harmony and to reduce caste discrimination. Under the scheme, villages of 100 houses each are being created to accommodate the various castes, with one community hall and burial ground to be shared by all. The scheme is named after the social reformer Periyar E. V. Ramasamy.

Kolapakkam is a neighbourhood in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India.
