Moon Valley is a neighborhood of approximately 1,600 homes located in the northern part of Phoenix, Arizona. The neighborhood, which comprises 29 separate subdivisions, was established in the early 1960s and is centered on the Moon Valley Country Club, a private country club. [1] It is bounded by 7th Street to the east, Thunderbird Road to the south, and Coral Gables Drive to the west and north. Lookout Mountain Preserve and North Mountain and Shaw Butte Preserves, two city parks that are part of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, lie adjacent to the south and east of the neighborhood.

Moon Valley Country Club

The Moon Valley Country Club is located in the geographic center of the Moon Valley neighborhood. The Club offers an 18-hole Championship golf course, a driving range, and an 18-hole par-3 golf course called the "MoonWalk". [2] The Club also offers tennis courts, an aquatic center, a fitness center, a restaurant and bar, a pro shop, and event space. [3] The club went through a noteworthy bankruptcy in 2013, but was reorganized after financial support from the community prevented redevelopment of the course into condominiums. [4] [5]

Neighborhood association

Although two smaller homeowner associations exist in Moon Valley, the entire neighborhood is represented by the Moon Valley Neighborhood Association (MVNA). [6] The MVNA collects voluntary dues each year to fund community events, organize neighborhood improvements, and advocate for the neighborhood to local elected officials. The MVNA also hires a security service to patrol the neighborhood throughout the year. [7]

Thomas Daniel Weiskopf was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. His most successful decade was the 1970s. He won 16 PGA Tour titles between 1968 and 1982, including the 1973 Open Championship. He was the runner-up at the The Masters four times. After winding down his career playing golf, Weiskopf became a noted golf course architect. He was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2023 and will be inducted in 2024.

The Santa Lucia Preserve or The Preserve is a private, 20,000 acres (8,100 ha) gated development permitting 297 homesites. It is located in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Range between Palo Corona Regional Park and Carmel Valley, California. The Preserve consists of a 12,000 acres (4,900 ha) nature reserve, 8,000 acres (3,200 ha) of open land, and 2,000 acres (810 ha) for development. It contains most of the watershed of Las Garzas Creek, a tributary of the Carmel River.
