Moortown is an electoral ward of Leeds City Council in north Leeds, West Yorkshire, covering the suburb of the same name, Meanwood and the southern part of Moor Allerton below the Leeds Outer Ring Road.

Moortown is a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is a civil parish and sits in the Moortown ward of Leeds City Council in the north east of the city.
Alwoodley is a suburb and civil parish of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. It is 5 miles (8.0 km) north of central Leeds and is one of the most affluent areas of the county. Alwoodley lies in the LS17 postcode area which was reported to contain the most expensive housing area in Yorkshire and the Humber by The Times.

Leeds City Council is the local authority of the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. Since the last election, Labour had lost a by-election to the Lib Dems in Harehills, and long-serving Chapel Allerton councillor, Garth Frankland, had defected from Labour to Left Alliance. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour party stayed in overall control of the council. Overall turnout in the election was 27.5%.
