The Sesiidae or clearwing moths are a diurnal moth family in the order Lepidoptera known for their Batesian mimicry in both appearance and behaviour of various Hymenoptera.
Palaephatoidea is a superfamily of insects in the order Lepidoptera with a single family, Palaephatidae with seven known genera. These "Gondwanaland moths" exhibit a disjunct distribution occurring mainly in South America, with four species in eastern Australia and Tasmania and one in South Africa. The larvae spin together leaves of Proteaceae (Ptyssoptera) or Verbenaceae (Azaleodes) . Palaephatoidea, a typical monotrysian group, is one two main candidates as the sister group of most of the Lepidoptera, the Ditrysia.
The Abyssinian genet, also known as the Ethiopian genet, is a genet species native to Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, and Djibouti. It is listed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List. It is one of the least-known genet species.
Choreutidae, or metalmark moths, are a family of insects in the lepidopteran order whose relationships have been long disputed. It was placed previously in the superfamily Yponomeutoidea in family Glyphipterigidae and in superfamily Sesioidea. It is now considered to represent its own superfamily. The relationship of the family to the other lineages in the group "Apoditrysia" need a new assessment, especially with new molecular data.
Opostegidae or "white eyecap moths" is a family of insects in the order Lepidoptera that is characterised by particularly large eyecaps over the compound eyes. Opostegidae are most diverse in the New World tropics.
Ephysteris is a genus of the twirler moth family (Gelechiidae). Among these, it is assigned to tribe Gnorimoschemini of the subfamily Gelechiinae. Even though it is a rather diverse and widespread group, most of these small and inconspicuous moths were overlooked by scientists until the early 20th century. Almost 90 species are known today but new ones are still being discovered.
Holcocera is a gelechoid moth genus of the family Blastobasidae. There are about 70 described species.
Horama is a genus of tiger moths in the family Erebidae first described by Jacob Hübner in 1819.
The Hemigalinae are a subfamily of the viverrids denominated and first described by John Edward Gray in 1864. Hemigalinae species are native to Southeast Asia from southern China through Indochina, Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi.
Paul Dognin was a French entomologist who specialised in the Lepidoptera of South America. Dognin named 101 new genera of moths.
Victor Gurney Logan Van Someren was a zoologist and entomologist. Van Someren was born in Australia. He attended George Watson's College and studied zoology at University of Edinburgh. He was also a dentist. Van Someren moved to Kenya in 1912 and lived in Nairobi. He was in the East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society and became Honorary Secretary. In 1930 he became Curator of the Coryndon Museum. Van Someren named a number of bird and butterfly species.
Synanthedon is a genus of moths in the family Sesiidae.
Macrotarsipus africana is a moth of the family Sesiidae described by William Beutenmüller in 1899. It is known from Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Dichomeridinae is a subfamily of moths in the family Gelechiidae.
Mothonica ocellea is a moth of the family Depressariidae. It is found in Guatemala, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
The Stenomatinae are a subfamily of small moths in the family Depressariidae.
Lethata is a genus of moths in the subfamily Stenomatinae.
Stenoma is a genus of moths. The type species is Stenoma litura, which was described by Philipp Christoph Zeller in 1839.
Timocratica is a moth genus of the family Depressariidae.
