Muthorai Palada, also known as M. Palada, is a village located about 10 kilometers southwest of Ooty in Tamil Nadu, India. [1] It falls within Nilgiris district. [2] [3] The pincode is 643004. [4]

Landmarks

A tribal museum opened in 1995 in Muthorai Palada, and aims to preseve the cultutal heritage of the tribes in the area. [5] It is located within the Tribal Research Centre. [6] The research center is also involved in creating livelihood opportunities for the tribal communities, and raises awareness of issues faced by the tribes. [7] [8] The Nilgiri Mountains have been home to several indigenous tribes including Toda, Kota, Kurumba, Irula, Paniya and Kattunayakan. [7] [9]

Eklavya Model Residential School in Muthorai Palada is part of Government of India's scheme for schooling of children of scheduled tribes across India. [10] [11]

Good Shepherd International School, founded in 1977, is located in Muthorai Palada. [12] [13]

Kotagiri is a hill station and a taluk in the Nilgiris district of the Indian state, Tamil Nadu. The Nilgiri hills have been the traditional home of the "Kota" tribes. The name 'Kota-giri' itself means 'mountains of the kotas'. Kotagiri was known in the past as 'Kota-keri' or 'Kota-gherry', the 'street of Kotas'. The town has developed around numerous knolls and valleys. It is one of the largest hill stations in the Nilgiri Mountains. Located at an average elevation of 1,950 m (6,400 ft), Kotagiri is quietly tucked away in the Nilgiris and used to be one of the summer resorts of Madras Presidency. The town was discovered in the year 1819 by John Sullivan when he came to a village called Dhimbatty to the north of Kotagiri. Kotagiri enjoys the third coldest climate next to Ooty and Kodaikanal in South India.

Many Ghat Roads can be found in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, Southern India. Nearly all of the district is located in the Nilgiri Hills, part of the Western Ghats mountains. This area borders the states of Karnataka and Kerala. The hills consequently can be reached by road from three states. Most of these Ghat Roads go through heavily forested mountains and contain a number of sharp hair-pin bends.

Ooty varkey is a crispy vegetarian snack that is native to the Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu, India. The varkey is named after Ooty, the popular hill station in the region. It is made from wheat flour mixed with mava along with ghee, vegetable oil and spices. Mava is made of banana, rava, and sugar. There are more than 90 bakers in the region who manufacture the same. In 2015, efforts were initiated by the Ooty Bakery Owners Association to obtain a Geographical indication. Ooty varkey was accorded GI tag in 2022-23.

Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a proposed protected area located along the area straddling both the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats in the Erode District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was notified by Government of Tamil Nadu in March 2023 and will become the 18th wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu. It will cover a forest area of 801.15 km2 (309.33 sq mi) and will cover parts of Gobichettipalayam and Anthiyur taluks in Erode district in Western Tamil Nadu.
