My Kind of Gospel is a studio album by American recording artist Wanda Jackson. It was released in 1983 via Vine Records and contained ten tracks of material. It was the twenty ninth studio record released in Jackson's career and among a series of gospel recordings she released during the 1980s decade.
Wanda Jackson was among the first women to have commercial success in both the country and Rockabilly music genres, releasing a series of singles during the 1950s and 1960s. This included "Let's Have a Party", "Fujiyama Mama", "Right or Wrong" and "The Box It Came In". Jackson transitioned into the gospel genre during the 1970s. [2] After parting ways with her long-time record label, Jackson recorded a series of gospel records for the Vine label in the 1980s. [3] The first Vine release was My Kind of Gospel. Jackson recorded the album alongside producer Gregg Gray at the Associated Recording Studio in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sessions took place in June 1983. [1]
My Kind of Gospel consisted of ten tracks, all of which were gospel-themed. Original recordings on the record included "Life's Journey", "Jesus Gave It to Me" and "Jesus Loves Cowgirls". The album was originally released in 1983 on Vine Records. The project marked Jackson's twenty ninth in her career and her first with Vine. It was originally issued as a vinyl LP. [1] In 1984 it was re-released on Tab Records, a Swedish record label, which had previously issued her 1984 album Rockabilly Fever . [4] [5] It was re-released again in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Wanda Lavonne Jackson is an American singer and songwriter. She was among the first women to have a career in rock and roll, recording a series of 1950s singles that helped give her the title "The Queen of Rockabilly". She is also a country music artist and is considered among the genre's first female stars.
The albums discography of Wanda Jackson, an American recording artist, consists of 44 studio albums, 37 compilation albums, four live albums, one video album, two box sets and has appeared on 26 albums. In 1954 at age sixteen, Jackson signed with Decca Records as a country music artist. The label did not issue a record until the 1962 compilation Lovin' Country Style, six years after Jackson left Decca. She signed with Capitol Records in 1956, and her self-titled debut studio album was released three years later. Although Jackson had recently been identifying herself as a rock-and-roll performer, the album consisted of country music recordings. However, it did contain Jackson's future rock-and-roll hit "Let's Have a Party", which was a hit in 1960, reaching the Top 40 on the Billboard Pop chart. The success of her rock-and-roll recordings led to the release of two more rock-and-roll studio LPs: Rockin' with Wanda (1960) and There's a Party Goin' On (1961). Additionally, Capitol issued two "split" studio albums which contained rock and roll on one side and country music on the other.
