"NYC Beat" is the second single from Armand Van Helden's seventh studio album, Ghettoblaster . It is a cover/sample of the early 80's single New York City Beats, performed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, performing as the Fabulous Pop Tarts.

Mstrkrft is a Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto. The group was started in 2005 by Jesse F. Keeler of Death from Above and Al-P formerly of the Mississauga, Ontario electropop group Girlsareshort. Al-P was also the producer for Death from Above 1979's album You're a Woman, I'm a Machine as well as several of Black Cat #13's records. Ghettoblaster is the seventh studio album by Armand Van Helden. The vocals in I Want Your Soul were sampled from "Do You Want It Right Now" by Siedah Garrett. The album was released in a special edition 2-disc set as well as the standard edition. Some of the tracks are throwbacks to freestyle music which was popular in the 1980s.

The song was released in Australia on September 12, 2005, and reached number 52 on the ARIA Singles Chart. In Europe, the song stalled at number 70 in the United Kingdom but entered the top 10 in Finland, where it reached number eight.
