Nadja Michael (born 1969) is a German opera singer with an active international career singing leading soprano roles. Her mother's great-aunt was the soprano Erna Sack.
She was born near Leipzig in Wurzen, then East Germany. Growing up, she enjoyed singing German folksongs with her family while her mother played the piano. Her grandmother and father both served time in prison for political reasons. Eventually, she escaped to West Germany where she studied music in Stuttgart. Later, she attended the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University) in the United States. [1]
She began her career as a mezzo-soprano but became a soprano in April 2005. [2] Michael has appeared at La Scala ( Salome , 2007), Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (Salome, 2008), [3] Vienna State Opera ( Fidelio ), Arena di Verona, Glyndebourne, Salzburg, Munich ( Macbeth and Medea in Corinto ), Brussels ( Médée , 2008), Chicago (Macbeth, 2010), Berlin ( Wozzeck , under Daniel Barenboim, 2011), and San Francisco Opera (Salome, 2009 and The Makropulos Case , 2016). In 2012, Michael made her Metropolitan Opera debut, as Lady Macbeth, opposite Thomas Hampson and Dimitri Pittas. [4] In 2015 she returned to the company as Judith in Bluebeard's Castle of Béla Bartók.
She resides in Berlin and founded a charity, Stimme fur die Menschlichkeit (Voice for Humanity). [1]

Karan Armstrong was an American operatic soprano, who was celebrated as a singing actress. After winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1966, she was given small roles at the Metropolitan Opera, and appeared in leading roles at the New York City Opera from 1969, including Conceptión in Ravel's L'heure espagnol, Blonde in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and the title roles in Verdi's La traviata, Offenbach's La belle Hélène and Puccini's La fanciulla del West. After she performed in Europe from 1974, first as Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen, and then as a sensational Salome at the Opéra du Rhin, she enjoyed a career at major opera houses, appearing in several opera recordings and films. Armstrong was for decades a leading soprano at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where her husband Götz Friedrich was director. She was awarded the title Kammersängerin twice.

Medea in Corinto is an 1813 opera in Italian by the composer Simon Mayr. It takes the form of a melodramma tragico in two acts. The libretto, by Felice Romani, is based on the Greek myth of Medea and the plays on the theme by Euripides and Pierre Corneille. The same subject had formed the basis for Luigi Cherubini's famous opera Médée (1797) which may have had an influence on Mayr's work. Medea in Corinto was first performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples on 28 November 1813 and was Mayr's greatest theatrical success.
Médée is a French language opéra-comique by Luigi Cherubini. The libretto by François-Benoît Hoffman was based on Euripides' tragedy of Medea and Pierre Corneille's play Médée. It is set in the ancient city of Corinth.

Kristine Ciesinski was an American operatic soprano who had an active international career from the late 1970s through the 2000s. She was a resident artist for many years with Theater Bremen, and was a regular singer in London opera houses during the 1980s and 1990s. She was best known for her role in ENO’s 1990 production of Verdi’s Macbeth. In the latter part of her musical career, Ciesinski taught singing more than she performed. In her later years, she took up gliding and was a pilot/instructor at Teton Aviation. Ciesinski died in a glider crash in the mountains of Wyoming on June 9, 2018.

Elena Tsallagova is a Russian operatic soprano who has performed at major opera houses and festivals in Europe. She was noticed internationally as Nanetta in Verdi's Falstaff at the Glyndebourne Festival, and in the title role of Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen at the Paris Opera. She has been a member of Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2013, performing lead roles such as Debussy's Mélisande, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss.
