Naima Khatoon is the vice chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University. She is the first female vice-chancellor in the history of the university. Khatoon earned her PhD in Psychology from the Aligarh Muslim University and joined as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology in 1988. She also served as an associate professor at the National University of Rwanda for a period of one year from 1999 to 2000. Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre Or AMU-Malappuram Campus is one of the prominent educational institution of Aligarh Muslim University in south India in the state of Kerala in Malappuram district near Perinthalmanna at Cherukara post. Rehana Khatoon is the first woman alumni of the Aligarh Muslim University to be awarded the Padma Shri.

The Aligarh Movement was the push to establish a modern system of Western-style scientific education for the Muslim population of British India,during the later decades of the 19th century. The movement's name derives from the fact that its core and origins lay in the city of Aligarh in Central India and,in particular,with the foundation of the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875.
