Niue is a self-governing island country in free association with New Zealand. It is situated in the South Pacific Ocean and is part of Polynesia, and predominantly inhabited by Polynesians. The island is commonly referred to as "The Rock", which comes from the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia".
Alofi is the capital of the island nation of Niue. With a population of 610 in 2022, Alofi has the distinction of being the second-smallest capital city of a sovereign state by population. It consists of two villages: Alofi North and Alofi South. They collectively serve as the capital, but of the two, Alofi South hosts more government buildings, as many were moved to the southern part after Cyclone Heta.
Niue Soccer Tournament was the top soccer division in Niue on an amateur basis. It was organised by the Niue Island Soccer Association, which as of 2021 had been defunct for a decade.

Enetama Lipi is a former politician from Niue. He was an Assemblyman for Namukulu when he was elected into the Niue Legislative Assembly and was appointed to the Executive Council following the 1972 election. In 1973 he served as part of the negotiating team which negotiated the terms of Niue's self-government. He became a Cabinet Minister in Robert Rex's first Government following the attainment of self-government status by Niue on 19 October 1974.
Hakupu is one of the fourteen villages of the island of Niue. According to the 2012 census, it has a population of 180, making it the second-largest village in Niue.
Liku is one of the fourteen villages of Niue, located close to the easternmost part of the island. It lies due east of the capital, Alofi, and its population at the 2022 census was 74.
Toi is one of the fourteen villages of Niue, located north of the island, 17 km from Alofi, also located 2.40 km from the coast. Its population at the 2022 census was 32, up from 17 in 2017. There is a road that goes down to Hikutavake, which is the closest town to Toi.

Tamakautoga is located in the southwestern portion of the island and borders the villages of Avatele, Hakupu, and Niue's capital, Alofi, meeting all three at a quadripoint. The village's population at the 2022 census was 180, down from 198 in 2017. This number has fallen significantly from the 19th century which was reported to be 275 in an 1899 mission census. Tamakautoga is represented by Andrew Funaki in the Niue Assembly.
Jack Willie Lipitoa is a Niuean politician and former Member of the Niue Assembly. He is the older brother of former Cabinet Minister Enetama Lipitoa.

General elections were held in Niue on 30 May 2020 for the 20 members of the Niue Assembly. The election resulted in the defeat of Premier Toke Talagi, who lost his seat. Fifteen incumbents were re-elected, including three who were unopposed. In Mutalu, a tie between two candidates resulted in one being elected by a coin toss.
The 2003 Niue Common Roll by-election was held in August 2003 to fill a vacant common roll seat in the Niue Assembly after the death of Hunuki Hunukitama in July 2003. The seat was won by Krypton Okesene of Tuapa, who received 55 more votes than Lofa Rex, wife of MP Robert Rex, Jr. Former director of education, Kupa Magatongia, received the third most votes, ahead of three other candidates.
