Nathalie Nordquist is a Swedish ballerina, who has performed major roles in many renowned ballet companies, including the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, and The Australian Ballet.
Nathalie Nordquist was born in Stockholm, to an American mother and Swedish father. She began dancing when she was just four years old, and enrolled in the Royal Swedish Ballet School at age ten. After training at the school for nine years, Nordquist was invited to join the Royal Swedish Ballet in 1998, [1] She was promoted to soloist in 2001, and principal dancer in 2005. In 1999, after winning first place in Sweden's division, Nordquist went on to place second in the Eurovision Contest for Young Dancers European finals, winning a silver medal.
From 2007 until 2010, Nordquist joined Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, and toured at least twenty countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Korea, China, and most of Europe. [2]
She resumed her association with the Royal Swedish Ballet in 2010, and in 2011 she danced the pas de deux from Le Spectre de la Rose at the International Ballet Gala in Dortmund. Reviewers called it "a highlight of the evening." [3]
Notable roles include Clara in The Nutcracker , Aurora in Sleeping Beauty , the title role in Manon , the title role in Cinderella , Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream , Gamzatti in La Bayadère , Lise in La fille mal gardée , and Swanhilde in Coppélia .
Nordquist's most famous role was Odette/Odile in the Royal Ballet's 2001 production of Swan Lake , with choreography by Sir Peter Wright. A live performance was recorded on DVD (in collaboration with the BBC), and sold worldwide. [2] The newspaper Svenska Dagbladet wrote of her performance: "She embodies the romantic ideal woman, vulnerable and with melancholic pleading arms... That she masters an entirely different aspect as well, is seen in her convincing portrayal of Odile...she dances a modern 'femme fatale' unbeatable!" [3]

The company Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo was formed in 1932 after the death of Sergei Diaghilev and the demise of Ballets Russes. Its director was Wassily de Basil, and its artistic director was René Blum. They fell out in 1936 and the company split. The part which de Basil retained went through two name changes before becoming the Original Ballet Russe. Blum founded Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, which changed its name to Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo when Léonide Massine became artistic director in 1938. It operated under this name until it disbanded some 20 years later.

Gaîté Parisienne is a 1938 ballet choreographed by Léonide Massine (1896-1979) to music by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) arranged and orchestrated many decades later by Manuel Rosenthal (1904-2003) in collaboration with Jacques Brindejonc-Offenbach, the composer's nephew. With a libretto and décor by Comte Étienne de Beaumont and costumes executed by Barbara Karinska, it was first presented by the Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo at the Théâtre de Monte Carlo on 5 April 1938.
Maria Olegovna Kochetkova is a Russian ballet dancer. She was a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet between 2007 and 2018, and with the American Ballet Theatre between 2015 and 2017. After that, she became a freelance dancer for several years, before joining the Finnish National Ballet in the 2020/21 season.
Ghislaine Thesmar, a ballerina, who studied at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1968, she married the dancer and choreographer Pierre Lacotte. Companies she danced with include Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas (1961), Lacotte's company, then the Paris Opera Ballet from 1972 to 1985; unusually, she joined the company directly as an étoile (principal). She led the Ballets de Monte Carlo with Lacotte from 1986 to 1988. She danced as a guest for the Rambert Ballet, the Grands Ballets Canadiens and the New York City Ballet. She has taught for the Paris Opera Ballet. She was frequently partnered by Michael Denard. Her most celebrated roles include Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and Giselle in Giselle. The ballet film La Sylphide (1972) has been released twice on DVD/video and features Thesmar and Denard in the principal roles of the Sylph and the Scotsman, James.
The Original Ballet Russe was a ballet company established in 1931 by René Blum and Colonel Wassily de Basil as a successor to the Ballets Russes, founded in 1909 by Sergei Diaghilev. The company assumed the new name Original Ballet Russe after a split between de Basil and Blum. De Basil led the renamed company, while Blum and others founded a new company under the name Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo. It was a large scale professional ballet company which toured extensively in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the United States, and Central and South America. It closed down operations in 1947.

Georgina Parkinson was an English ballet dancer and ballet mistress. She joined The Royal Ballet in 1957 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1962. Best known for dancing 20th-century works, she was a frequent collaborator of choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, and had also created roles for Frederick Ashton. In 1978, she accepted the invitation to become a ballet mistress at the American Ballet Theatre for a year, before assuming the position permanently in 1980. She also performed character roles with the American Ballet Theatre.

Following her decades-long career, she moved to the U.S., where she founded the Krassovska Ballet Jeunesse. Krassovska taught, choreographed and performed until her death.
Chase Johnsey is an American ballet dancer. He is the co-founding and current Artistic Director of Ballet de Barcelona. He was a former principal dancer with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo and a former first artist with the English National Ballet. Johnsey, who identifies as genderfluid but uses he/him pronouns, is reportedly the first male dancer to join the female ensemble of an international ballet company.
