The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) is a statutory body regulating medical education and registration of doctors in Nepal. [1] [2] [3] [4]

NMC was established in 1964 under Nepal Medical Council Act 1964. Chairman of NMC is nominated by Government of Nepal whereas Vice-Chairman is elected from NMC members. [5]

NMC is one of many statutory bodies related to Healthcare in Nepal. It mainly deals with code and conduct of medical doctors registered in this council. Other are Nepal Nursing Council, Nepal Pharmacy Council, Nepal Ayurvedic Medical Council, Nepal Health Professional Council, Nepal Health Research Council. The current chairman is Prof. Dr. Bhagawan Koirala.

Medical Colleges

There are 18 medical colleges in Nepal that award the MBBS degree. Nepal Medical Council (NMC) is the regulatory board that gives recognition to medical institutions for providing formal studies in medical science and training.

Radio Kantipur or Kantipur FM is a Nepalese FM radio station, established in October 1998. It currently operates in the eastern, central, western, mid-western and far-western development regions. It is most popular in eastern region and in Kathmandu. It provides news and entertainment programs 24 hours a day. In 2007 it started nationwide transmission on two frequencies – 96.1 MHz in the east and central regions and 101.8 MHz in the west. Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) is one of the nine schools of Kathmandu University running medical, nursing and allied health science program. KUSMS is a collaborative program of Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. The main office of KUSMS is on the premises of Dhulikhel Hospital, a Kathmandu University hospital, in Kavrepalanchok District, Nepal. KUSMS was set up in 1994. Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) is an autonomous, not-for-profit, public institution of higher education established in 2064 B.S. with the charter granted by the Parliament of Nepal. The stated aim of the PAHS is to work in close partnership with the national health system to improve the health care services in the remote/rural areas primarily through producing technically competent and socially responsible health care workers. Currently PAHS has been running School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery. In the year 2017, PAHS started in Maters Program in Public Health (MPH) under School of Public Health (SoPH). In future, it aims to run School of Allied Health Sciences. PAHS MBBS curriculum focuses on holistic care of individual and community. Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences(Nepali: पोखरा स्वास्थ्य विज्ञान प्रतिष्ठान) is the teaching wing of Western Regional Hospital Pokhara, Nepal. It offers Post-graduation MD/MS courses. Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (PoAHS) is one of the nine health science academies in Nepal. The academy, which runs postgraduate degrees of medical science, has been named after the beautiful tourist city Pokhara.

Dr. Toshima Karki is a Nepali politician, a surgeon by profession and member of Rastriya Swatantra Party. Karki is a former Minister of State for Health Ministry of Nepal. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 from Lalitpur 3.

It aims to produce skilled healthcare professionals to address the country’s healthcare needs.
