New Last Name is the second studio album by British band Courting, released on 26 January 2024 through Lower Third and PIAS Recordings. The album was primarily produced by frontman Sean Murphy O'Neill and producer Robert Whiteley, with two tracks co-produced by Cribs members, twin brothers Gary and Ryan Jarman. It received positive reviews from critics.

New Last Name received a score of 71 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic based on four critics' reviews, indicating "generally favorable" reception. [1] Kyle Kohner of The Line of Best Fit described the album as "a collection of their most infectious pop songs dusted with their inevitable experimental flair" as well as "an irresistible mess made with exploratory abandon and the demeanour to show off and articulate a thing or two about expectations and pandering". [3] The Skinny 's Vicky Greer wrote that the album "forgoes the eccentricities of Guitar Music in favor of music that more closely matches their lofty ambitions—out with sarcastic talk-singing, and in with sugar-sweet choruses". [6]
NME 's Sophie Williams found that "the album's overall vibrancy doesn't dim on repeated listens. What's clear is that the playful, 'for the plot' vibe of a band that started on a lark is beginning to transform into something close to remarkable". [4] Andy Steiner of Paste stated that "Courting condenses themselves on New Last Name into smaller, more straightforward indie rock. But the moments when they escape those confines exude with personality and color." [5]
Ben Forrest, writing for Far Out panned the album, calling it "a derivative mess of indie landfill". [2] Forrest said that "in an effort to diversify their sound, certain tracks hint at disco, but these often feel underwhelming and somewhat forced. Furthermore, the almost impressive lack of subtlety in O'Neill's lyricism means you don't have to think too hard about what the songs might mean, it's all presented fairly obviously and without much depth". [2]

Last Splash is the second album by American alternative rock band the Breeders, released on August 30, 1993. Originally formed as a side project for Pixies bassist Kim Deal, the Breeders quickly became her primary recording outlet. Last Splash peaked at number 33 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and by June 1994, the album had been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of one million units.

The Mission is the sixteenth studio album by American rock band Styx, released on June 16, 2017, through UMe. It is the band's first studio album since 2005's Big Bang Theory and their first release of original material since 2003's Cyclorama. The album reached #45 on the Billboard 200, propelled by pre-sales prior to its official release date, but fell off the chart after 2 weeks. In an era with limited album sales, total U.S. Sales were approximately 15,000 copies, a far cry from the band's triple platinum past. Yet, the album did briefly reach the Top 100 in four other countries. The concept album tells the story of a mission to the planet Mars in the year 2033. The album's story was written by Tommy Shaw and Will Evankovich. Evankovich played a significant role, serving as producer and co-writing all but one of the full length tracks.

American Noir is the sixth extended play (EP) by English rock band Creeper. Written and recorded with producer Xandy Barry during sessions for the group's second studio album Sex, Death & the Infinite Void, it was released on 30 July 2021 by Roadrunner Records. Prelude to Ecstasy is the debut album by British indie rock band the Last Dinner Party, released on 2 February 2024 by Island Records. It was produced by James Ford, and includes the singles "Nothing Matters", "Sinner", "My Lady of Mercy", "On Your Side", "Caesar on a TV Screen" and "The Feminine Urge". The band will tour the UK and Europe from January to July 2024 in support of the album.
Blu Wav is the sixth studio album by American indie rock band Grandaddy. Released on February 16, 2024, through Dangerbird Records, it marks their first album in nearly six years since Last Place, as well as their first since the death of bassist Kevin Garcia. The album's title is a portmanteau of the genres bluegrass and new wave. It has been preceded by the singles "Watercooler" and "Cabin in My Mind".
