Nidigattu Sanjay (born 19 March 1967 [2] ), better known as N. Sanjay, is a Silver jubilee 1996 [2] -batch Regular Recruit (RR) Indian Police Service Officer belonging to Andhra Pradesh cadre. [4] At present, Sanjay is the Chief of AP Criminal Investigation Department. He also holds full additional charges as Director-General of AP Disaster Response and Fire Services and as Director, AP Police Personnel and Training.

Since 2017, [2] he has been Director [5] of Andhra Pradesh Police Academy in Anantapur, [6] until it was moved to Mangalagiri. On 27 January 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police. [7]

Earlier in 2021, the Policeman was assigned [4] a very sensitive role of Special Officer [4] to monitor [8] 2021 Andhra Pradesh local elections. He was appointed [4] by State Election Commissioner, N. Ramesh Kumar, IAS. [9] His brief included not only overseeing security arrangements for elections, and also apprising State Election Commission on efforts to contain malpractices. [10] The election exercise, which was held over four phases in February 2021, with a mechanism to receive [11] and redress [12] complaints. Along with Ramesh Kumar, Sanjay toured the state, initiating confidence-building measures among voters. [13]

Education

After schooling and collegiate studies in Visakhapatnam and New Delhi, [14] he took a diploma in mechanical engineering, [2] Sanjay joined Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, where he worked for nearly 8 years. [15] He also pursued a course in law [2] from Andhra University, Waltair. With his father's inspiration, [15] he prepared for civil services.

In the late nineties, Sanjay got selected to Indian Police Service and was trained in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussorie and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Shivarampally. He was a Regular Recruit of 50th [1] group of recruits at Police Academy, when it was under incumbency of Trinath Mishra, IPS. [16]

Career

Pre-bifurcation

Sanjay served in different capacities in undivided Andhra Pradesh in districts of Warangal, Nalgonda, Kurnool, Ananthapur, Nizamabad and Hyderabad. [15] In tackling crime, he faced Naxalism, Communalism and Factionalism and braved odds to rein in discipline.

In Hyderabad City, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) during 2004 and was also Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) in 2013. [17] During Sanjay's tenure as DCP in Hyderabad in 2004, his jurisdiction (West Zone) witnessed a sensational case of crime [18] that involved Tollywood film star Balakrishna. There was also a shootout of a Leopard, that irked Animal rights Activists, which he reminiscences [15] that it was rather necessitated due to force of circumstances. [19] Sanjay also served in Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) in 2010. [20]

Post-bifurcation

In 2014, during bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Police Officer chose to remain in residual Andhra Pradesh. [21] On his preference, he was retained in Andhra Pradesh cadre. [22] Even after bifurcation, he continued to serve in Telangana as Joint managing director of Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh [23] until he was moved to Andhra Pradesh in early 2015 to serve as South Coastal Zone Guntur Range Inspector-general of police. [24] During his two-year tenure as IGP, Sanjay continued to let the presence of Police known, to serve as a deterrent to those breaking the law. [25]

In 2017, [2] he was transferred as Director, Andhra Pradesh Police Academy, where he has been involved in overseeing training component of Policemen of State Police Services. [26] During his first year in Ananthapur, there were 652 Stipendiary Cadet Trainee Sub-inspectors of Police of 2017 batch, out of which 165 [27] were women, a record 25% of total candidates passing out of the college. [28] In 2018, when Andhra Pradesh Police released a training manual on investigation in Human trafficking by then Director-General of police, R. P. Thakur in the presence of Social activist and Padma Shri awardee, Sunitha Krishnan, [29] Sanjay was present and reaffirmed the commitment of Police force to include the manual in Syllabi of Police Training Colleges across the State. With a spike in Cyber crimes and to better equip Police force, [30] the Policeman conducted short-term courses among its Policemen on aspects to deal with it. [31]

Under an E-governance project of National Crime Records Bureau under Government of India, Sanjay was made a Nodal Officer in 2019 [32] for Andhra Pradesh to oversee Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.

V. Dinesh Reddy is an Indian police officer from the state of Andhra Pradesh serving as the Director General of Andhra Pradesh Police. He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1977 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He completed his schooling from Hyderabad public school (HPS) and college from Madras Christian College (MCC) and St.Stephens Delhi. Dinesh Reddy joined the Indian Police Service on 30 July 1977 from the Andhra Pradesh Cadre and he retired serving as the Director General of Andhra Pradesh Police in 2013.

Bayyarapu Prasada Rao was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1979 batch of the state of Andhra Pradesh who served as the Director General (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh Police. He was appointed in charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh on 30 September 2013. Earlier he served as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, he was deputed as Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India which is one of the key posts after the Union Home Secretary. B. Shivadhar Reddy is a 1994-Batch Indian Police Service officer, from Ranga Reddy district of Telangana State. Battula Shivadhar Reddy has pursued his LL.B. from Osmania University, Hyderabad. B. Shivadhar Reddy is one of the toppers of Civil Service Examination, 1993. He is presently an Additional Director General of Police. Prior to this, B. Anjani Kumar is an Indian Police Service officer who is former Director General of Police of Telangana. He took the charge on 31 December 2022 succeeding M Mahendra Reddy. He is a 1990 batch IPS officer of the Telangana cadre. He has also served with the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1998 - 99.

Anjana Sinha is an Indian Police Service 1990-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh-cadre. She is currently on Government of India deputation to Central Industrial Security Force at the rank of Inspector General and serves as the director of National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad.

Ram Pravaesh Thakur is an Indian police officer and former Andhra Pradesh DGP. He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1986 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed as DGP on 1 July 2018 and served in the position till 1 June 2019. He is a B.Tech graduate from IIT Kanpur joined the Indian Police Service in 1986.

Dora joined the Indian Police Service in 1965 and was allotted to Andhra Pradesh Cadre. After serving as an additional D.G. of Police (C.I.D.), in Andhra Pradesh, he was promoted to the Director General of Police for the State in 1996. In 2002 he went on deputation as Director General of Police to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in New Delhi. He also served as the president of Indian Olympic Weight Lifting Association and was also the Chef-de-mission of the Indian contingent to the 2006 Commonwealth Games. In 1993, Dora was one of the 40-odd policemen marked for death by the People's War Group (PWG).

Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS, is principal secretary (home), government of Andhra Pradesh. He belongs to the 1992 batch of the Indian Police Service. Harish Kumar Gupta hails from Jammu and Kashmir (state). His career spanning over three decades began in the nineties in Undivided Andhra Pradesh. After the bifurcation of the state in 2014, he was retained in the residuary Andhra Pradesh.

Ravi Joseph Lokku, IPS, is the present Additional Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi. He is also on the Executive Council of Rashtriya Raksha University, New Delhi.
