Nilambazar College, established in 1994, is a general degree college situated at Nilambazar, in Karimganj district, Assam. This college is affiliated with the Assam University. This college offers higher secondary and bachelor's degree courses in arts.
Karimganj district is one of the 34 districts of the Indian state of Assam. Karimganj town is both the administrative headquarters district and the biggest town of this district. It is located in southern Assam and borders Tripura and the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh. It makes up the Barak Valley alongside Hailakandi and Cachar. Karimganj was previously part of the Sylhet District before the Partition of India. It became a district in 1983.

Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), established in 1968, is a government-run medical college cum hospital in Silchar in southern Assam, one of the oldest medical college of North East India. It is the only referral hospital in the southern part of Assam, also referred to as the Barak Valley, and serves neighbouring states including Mizoram, North Tripura, West Manipur and South Meghalaya.
Mahim Bora was an Indian writer and educationist from Assam. He was elected as a president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha held in 1989 at Doomdooma. He was awarded most notably the Padma Shri in 2011, the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001 and the Assam Valley Literary Award in 1998. Rai Bahadur Surya Kumar Bhuyan MBE (1894–1964) was a writer, historian, and a poet from Assam. He presided over the Asam Sahitya Sabha (1953) held at Shillong. He was the elected member of Rajya Sabha during 1952–53, and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1956.
