Karimganj College, established in 1946, is one of the oldest undergraduate, coeducational college situated in Karimganj, Assam and is affiliated with the Assam University.

Karimganj College Students Union (KCSU)

The Union activities are divided into indoor and out-door sports, cultural activities, meeting and debates social service etc. Membership to the Union is compulsory. Principal is the Ex-officio President of the Union. Other office bearers and Class Representatives are elected annually from amongst the student who act under supervision of professors-in-charge of different sections. Students Union election is conducted as per the constitution of the Karimganj College students’ union adopted after DHE's guideline No. PC/HE/ CC, 13/2006/16 dt. 18-09-2006 based on the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.[ citation needed ]

In 2024, NSUI beat ABVP in colleges student union election. Assam Congress's Bhupen bora had campaigned for NSUI in that election. After defeated by NSUI, ABVP sat on a dharna saying that the result was manipulated and demanded recounting but no such step taken by authorities resulted to boycotting of oath taking ceremony by ABVP. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha</span> Indian politician

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha is an Indian politician from the State of Assam, belonging to Indian National Congress. He was elected as MLA of Karimganj North for the first time in 2011 defeating the four-time BJP MLA Mission Ranjan Das, breaking the misfortune of congress in North Karimganj after 25 years, he was once again re elected in 2016. In 2021, he won for the third consecutive time. He was also the deputy chief whip of Congress Legislative Party in Assam.
