Niles North High School, officially Niles Township High School North, is a public four-year high school located in Skokie, Illinois, a North Shore suburb of Chicago, Illinois in the United States. It is part of Niles Township Community High School District 219, which also includes Niles West High School. Its feeder middle schools are Old Orchard Junior High, Oliver McCracken Middle School, East Prairie School, and Golf Middle School. Before being moved to a separate facility in Lincolnwood, Illinois, the Bridges Adult Transition program was hosted at the school.

Athletics

Niles North competes in the Central Suburban League and Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Viking. Niles North's rival is Niles West High School. The crosstown rivalry is referenced as the "Skokie Skirmish." [5]

Activities

The Niles North chess team has won the Illinois High School Association State Championship in 2006, 2010, and 2012. [6] [7]

The Niles North Robotics Team (333) won the Illinois State Tournament In their 2013-14 inaugural season,. [8] In the 2014–15, all 8 of the Niles North Teams qualified for the Illinois State Competition, with one of the teams, 333M, being crowned the Illinois State Tournament Champions and competing at VEX Worlds. [8] In 2015-16, eight of the nine Niles North teams qualified for the Illinois State Competition. Three teams qualified and competed at the U.S. Robotics Competition; one team was crowned the Illinois State Tournament Champion; one team was crowned the Illinois State Design Award Champions & the Illinois State Robot Skills Champions; three teams competed at VEX Worlds, with one being a Semifinalist in their division. The Independent School League (ISL) is an athletic conference comprising 10 private secondary schools in the Chicago metro area. The schools are all relatively small, most belonging to the smaller classes of competition offered by the IHSA.

The North Shore Channel is a drainage canal built between 1907 and 1910 to flush the sewage-filled North Branch of the Chicago River down the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. The sewage carrying duty has been largely taken over by the Chicago Deep Tunnel, but there are still occasional discharges due to heavy rains.

Niles East High School was a public 4–year school in Skokie, Illinois. Operated by Niles Township High Schools District 219, Niles East was first opened in 1938 and closed after the 1979–1980 school year. Niles East's sister schools Niles West High School and Niles North High School remain open. The school was known as Niles Township High School until Niles West High School opened in 1959. The school sports teams were named the Trojans. The school's greatest claims to fame are its two Nobel Laureate alumni—perhaps even more notable because the school was open for only 42 years. It ranks high among schools around the world on the list "Nobel Prize laureates by secondary school affiliation." The school buildings were demolished by Oakton College.

Walter Mendenhall is a former American football running back. He played college football at Illinois from 2005 to 2007 before transferring to Illinois State University where he played in 2008. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2009 and has also been a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. He is the brother of former Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall.

While attending the University of Illinois, Rosen was on the chess team that secured a spot at the President's Cup in 2013 and 2014.
