No. 17 Sector RAF is a former Royal Air Force Sector that was operational during both the First and the Second World Wars.
17th Wing RFC was formed on 9 August 1916 at Gosport controlling Gosport and Beaulieu units. On 19 August 1916, ARS formed at Gosport, the wing was transferred to Southern Group Command on 10 January 1917. The wing moved to Beaulieu on 2 August 1917 and moved to No. 8 Group RAF on the day the Royal Air Force was born on 1 April 1918. It was transferred to No. 7 Group RAF on 13 May 1918 and disbanded on 12 August 1918. [1]
The wing was reformed on 28 September 1918 as the No. 17 (Malta) Wing RAF at Malta to control local units such as:

Shortly afterwards on 14 October 1943 the wing moved to RAF Kenley. The wing was disbanded on 15 May 1944. [1]

Royal Air Force Heathfield, or more commonly RAF Heathfield, sometimes known as RAF Ayr/Heathfield due to its proximity to Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which was also used by military flights, is a former Royal Air Force station. It opened in April 1941 as an airbase for day and night fighter squadrons. In September 1944 it transferred to Fleet Air Arm control and commissioned as HMS Wagtail. The Royal Navy paid off the airbase in March 1946 and it was reduced to care and maintenance. The United States Air Force used it for storage between 1951 and 1957.
