Northern Christian Radio, Inc is a not-for-profit organization that operates non-commercial FM radio stations in Northern Michigan. Northern Christian Radio is based in Gaylord, Michigan. [2] Northern Christian Radio's studios are located on highway M-32 east of Gaylord.

In the early 1980s a group of Christian men began to explore the possibility of starting a Christian radio station for Northern Michigan. Through their efforts, Northern Christian Radio, Incorporated was formed, and WPHN went on the air on Easter Sunday in 1985. [1]

On December 22, 2023, Northern Christian Radio, Inc acquired Good News Media, Inc with a total of 8 stations and 2 translators including (95.9/105.5) WLJW/Traverse City, MI (Fuel FM), (1370/1400).WLJW/WLJN/Traverse City, MI (The Source) and WLJN/Traverse City, (89.9) and WLJD/Charlevoix (107.9). Also included is Traverse City translator W281CG at 104.1 FM, and Cadillac, MI translator W264DQ at 100.7 FM. [3]

The Promise FM

Northern Christian Radio's main network changed its name from "Northern Christian Radio" to The Promise FM in November 2009. [1] The Promise FM programs a mix of Christian adult contemporary music. The Promise FM network includes WPHN in Gaylord, Michigan, WOLW in Cadillac, Michigan, WTHN in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, WQHN in East Jordan, Michigan, and two translators located in Petoskey, Michigan and Newberry, Michigan. [2] The Promise FM is a reporter to Radio and Records' Christian Soft AC/Inspirational playlist panel, reporting under the calls of WOLW, its station in Cadillac. [4]

Sacred Favorites Radio

Sacred Favorites Radio was a network which aired traditional Christian Hymns as well as some Christian talk and teaching programs, such as Thru the Bible with J. Vernon McGee, Back to the Bible with Woodrow Kroll, and Grace to You with John MacArthur. The network is no longer in operation.

It is owned by Cadillac Telecasting Company, which maintains a shared services agreement (SSA) with 910 Media Group, owner of Cadillac-licensed CBS affiliate WWTV, channel 9, for the provision of certain services. Both stations share studios on Broadcast Way in Cadillac, while WFQX-TV's transmitter is located on 130th Avenue in unincorporated Osceola County, just northeast of Tustin.

WSRT is a country station that broadcasts out of Gaylord, Michigan. The 100,000-watt station was also simulcast on 105.5 WSRJ Honor/Traverse City until 2020. Throughout most of its life, it was best known as a CHR/Top 40-formatted station known as WKPK.

WGFN is a radio station in Northern Michigan that airs a classic rock format under the branding of "The Bear", and is currently owned by Black Diamond Broadcast Holdings, LLC. WGFN is based out of Glen Arbor, Michigan, airing at 98.1 FM to the Traverse City market. WGFN has been the flagship station of the Bear network of classic rock stations that have aired in Northern Michigan since the early 2000s, which peaked with 4 regional stations from 2002-2009 and 2010-2012. The only other surviving Bear station in the region is 95.3 WWSS, which airs the same programming and playlist as WGFN, but features differing station identifications and commercial content for its market. The Bear aired the popular syndicated morning radio program The Bob & Tom Show until September 2017, and currently airs Detroit Tigers baseball games and Detroit Lions football games. The current lineup includes Smitty in morning drive, "California Girl" Nicole Pence in mid-days, and Jay Roberts on afternoon drive.
