Northern Electricity Supply PLC (NESCO) is a state owned utility in Bangladesh and is located in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. [1] [2] [3] [4]

History

North West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited was started its commercial operation in October 2016 by breaking up different distribution network of Bangladesh Power Development Board. It is responsible for the distribution of electricity in Rajshahi Division and Rangpur Division. The plan to create the company was formed in 2003 but was delayed by opposition from staff at Bangladesh Power Development Board. When the company was being formed some employees of Bangladesh Power Development Board vandalized the office of the chairman of the board. [5] [6]

Northern Electricity Supply Company Limited was established in August 2005. It was established and registered as a public limited company under the Companies Act, 1994. The company took over the North West Zone of Bangladesh Power Development Board which contained Rajshahi Division and Rangpur Division on 1 October 2016. [7]

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) is a government agency operating under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It was created as a public-sector organization to boost the country's power sector after the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent state in 1972. This government organization is responsible for planning and developing the nation's power infrastructure and for operating much of its power generation facilities. The BPDB is responsible for the major portion of generation and distribution of electricity mainly in urban areas of the country.

Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) is a public limited company which distributes electricity at the northern parts of Dhaka City and Tongi Town of Gazipur District. The company was created in November 1996 under the Companies Act 1994 as a Public Limited Company. The company is now under the Power Division of the Bangladesh Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and serving a total number of 604,304 consumers as of 31 December 2013. Md. Selim Uddin, rank of additional secretary, is the chairperson of DESCO and Engr. Md. Kausar Ameer Ali is the managing director.

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) is a Public Limited Company under the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Bangladesh, that manages the distribution of electricity to the customers of the Dhaka City Corporation area. The company, created as a part of the Power Sector Reform Programme, was registered on 25 October 2005 under the Companies Act, 1994. The government owns 100% share of the company. DPDC started commercial operation on 1 July 2008 taking over from Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (DESA). All the assets and liabilities of DESA were transferred to DPDC through an agreement signed in September 2008.
