North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) is a state owned power and electric company in Bangladesh and is located in UTC Building (Level 3 & 4), 8 Panthapath, Kawranbazar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is an enterprise of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). [1]

History

North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) was established on 28 August 2007 as a Public Limited Company under the Bangladesh Power Development Board. [2] Bangladesh-China Power Company (Pvt.) Ltd (BCPCL) a joint venture between China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) and North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) built a 1,320MW power plant in Patuakhali District near Payra Seaport. Bangladesh-China Power Company (Pvt.) Ltd (BCPCL) was formed in 2014. NWPGCL has four power plants in Sirajganj, Bheramara, Kushtia, Bagerhat and Khulna. [3] [4] Northwest Power Generation Company Limited has joint ventures with Siemens to build a 4 billion dollar power plant. [5] It has joint venture with Sembcorp Utilities of Singapore to build a 414-megawatt power plant in Sirajganj. [6] It also has joint collaboration with the Japanese Marubeni. [7]

The Payra 1320 MW thermal power plant is a 1,320 megawatt coal-fired power station built in Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali District in southern Bangladesh. It is a joint venture between the North-West Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (NWPGCL) and China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC). Till May 2023, this plant was producing 700 to 1000 megawatts of electricity every day.

The Port of Payra is a seaport located at Kalapara in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2013. The port was officially inaugurated in 2016. It is located on the Ramnabad Channel near the Bay of Bengal. The port is undergoing several Development and expansion and the project is expected to be completed in 202.
