Nortonsville is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. [1] It is on the northern border of Albemarle County, near the Lynch River, which shares its border with Greene County.
The village was named for Cyprian C. Norton, who, in 1835, lent his name to the post office established here. [2] [3]
The post office structure, with 21 rooms, remains from the 19th century on a property that included, at the time, a home, store, post office, doctor, dentist, schoolhouse, barber shop, blacksmith shop, garage, and working mill. The Louis Cranston Parrish family ran the post office in the 20th century. [2]
The historic Binghams United Methodist Church, established in 1796, is a half mile northeast of Nortonsville, on the north side of the Lynch River, in Dyke, Virginia. Rev. John Gibson, a farmer and landowner, preached there for years.

Albemarle Sound is a large estuary on the coast of North Carolina in the United States located at the confluence of a group of rivers, including the Chowan and Roanoke. It is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Currituck Banks, a barrier peninsula upon which the town of Kitty Hawk is located, at the eastern edge of the sound, and part of the greater Outer Banks region. Roanoke Island is situated at the southeastern corner of the sound, where it connects to Pamlico Sound. Much of the water in the Albemarle Sound is brackish or fresh, as opposed to the saltwater of the ocean, as a result of river water pouring into the sound.
The Roanoke River runs 410 miles (660 km) long through southern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina in the United States. Peter Jefferson was a planter, cartographer and politician in colonial Virginia best known for being the father of the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. The "Fry-Jefferson Map", created by Peter in collaboration with Joshua Fry in 1757, accurately charted the Allegheny Mountains for the first time and showed the route of "The Great Road from the Yadkin River through Virginia to Philadelphia distant 455 Miles"—what would later come to be known as the Great Wagon Road. Likewise, it indicates the route of the Trading Path from Petersburg to Old Hawfields, North Carolina and beyond.

Rosena is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. It lies at the intersection of Rt. 20 and Rt. 640, within the Stony Point community. The sole service is a single general store, "Stony Point Market," which long did business under the name of "Bobbi's" and, before that, "Bell's Store." As of 1904, the United States Geological Survey designated it as a "post village," indicating that at that time there was a post office. And as of 1910, the population was great enough to warrant a stop by the "traveling library stations" of the Virginia State Library.
