He was a traditionalist who adhered to the Danish da:Bedre Byggeskik movement which emphasized traditional Danish construction practices. However he did not shy from using modern materials like concrete in, for example, his breakthrough work 'Swimming Pool in Ollerup, for which he won a Silver Medal in the Architectural Design discipline at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.

Rødkilde Højskole is a folk high school just south of Stege on the Danish island of Møn. Founded in 1866, it is one of the older folk high schools in Denmark. Renamed Teaterhøjskolen Rødkilde, it now offers both short and longer courses for those wishing to learn more about the theatre, especially those aspiring to become actors. The main building by Ludvig Fenger, the student wing and the octagonal assembly building were listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 8 July 1982.

Niels Ebbesen Mortensen Bukh was a Danish gymnast and educator who founded the first athletic folk high school in Ollerup in Funen, Denmark. He achieved international fame as a gymnastics trainer for the Danish team at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912. He was inspired by the rhythmic female gymnastics of the Finnish gymnastics educator Elli Björkstén(1870–1947) and the medical gymnastics of Kaare Theilmann.

Folk high schools are institutions for adult education that generally do not grant academic degrees, though certain courses might exist leading to that goal. They are most commonly found in Nordic countries and in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The concept originally came from the Danish writer, poet, philosopher, and pastor N. F. S. Nanna Kristensen-Randers née Berg (1864–1908) was a Danish lawyer and folk high school administrator. In 1887, she became the first Danish woman to receive a law diploma. From 1894, she assisted her husband, J.P. Kristensen-Randers, in running Ollerup Højskole on the island of Funen.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ingeborg Appel</span> Danish educator (1869–1948)

Ingeborg Appel née Schrøder was a Danish educator who was active at Askov Folk High School. As a teenager, she became interested in teaching gymnastics which she later studied at the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences in Stockholm. She introduced the subject at Askov where she also gave courses in health and nursing. In 1891, she married the school's principal Jacob Appel with whom she shared responsibility for the school, running the establishment herself during the lengthy periods when he was tied up as a government minister. In addition to her teaching skills, Appel proved to be an excellent administrator and an inspiring speaker.
