Oscar Curtis is a British actor and model. Curtis took acting classes and modelled for several photoshoots and promos between 2017 and 2022. Curtis appeared in the 2021 feature film Last Village on the Right, and in 2022 he guest starred in an episode of Doctors . In 2023, Curtis took over the role of Lucas Hay on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks , where he was involved in a long-running storyline about conversion therapy. For his role as Lucas, Curtis was longlisted for "Best Young Performer" and "Best Partnership" at the 2024 Inside Soap Awards.
Curtis trained at Act Up North and also took acting classes at the Mark Jermin Stage School. [1] Between 2017 and 2022, Curtis modelled for a variety of photoshoots and promos, including for Calvin Klein, Footasylum, Adidas, JD Sports and Vanity Teen. [1] In 2020, he appeared in a commercial for Footasylum's Christmas Campaign. [1] In 2021, Curtis appeared in the feature film Last Village on the Right. [1] The following year, Curtis guest starred on the BBC soap opera Doctors as Finn Carson, a homeless teenager, in the episode originally broadcast on 3 October 2022. [2]
In January 2023, it was announced that Curtis had been cast as Lucas Hay on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks , becoming the fourth actor to play the character. [3] [4] He took over the role from William Hall, who had portrayed Lucas from 2013 to 2022 on-off; the character was recast to Curtis so that he could tackle more mature storylines. [5] It was teased that Lucas would have navigate "difficult storylines" as he "goes through the trials and tribulations of student life", whilst executive producer Lucy Allan revealed that Lucas would have a "big love story" that she was looking forward to. [5] [3] Allan also believed that Curtis was the "spitting image" of Kieron Richardson, who portrays Lucas' father Ste Hay, when he was 16-years-old. [6] Curtis felt welcomed at Hollyoaks, explaining, "the cast and crew feel like a real family. My first day was so exciting and I'm ready for the fans of the show to see the new Lucas. You can definitely expect drama, emotions and everything in between". [3] Curtis later revealed that cast member Matthew James-Bailey, who portrays Ethan Williams, took Curtis "under his wing" despite the characters not having scenes together, with Curtis adding that he goes to James-Bailey if he ever needs any advice. [7] Curtis enjoyed working with his on-screen family – consisting of Richardson, (Gregory Finnegan) James Nightingale) and Elà-May Demircan (Leah Barnes) – and believed that their unit is "like an actual family". Curtis debuted as Lucas in the episode broadcast on 16 March 2023. [3] [5] Between 2023 and 2024, Lucas was involved in a long-running storyline where he struggles with his sexuality and is groomed into conversion therapy, which was televised in order to bring awareness around the issue. [8] [9] [10] The storyline led to Lucas self-harming and later coming out to his family and starting a romantic relationship with his good friend Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass), whom Lucas had struggled with his feelings for. [11] [12] [13] Lucas and Dillon's relationship gained a fan following. [14] [15] Curtis praised his working relationship with Dass, explaining, "Our off-screen chemistry reflects on-screen as we get on so well, I honestly couldn't do [my job] without him and that's the truth". [7] For his role as Lucas, Curtis was longlisted for "Best Young Performer" at the 2024 Inside Soap Awards, whilst Curtis and Dass were longlisted for "Best Partnership" for their roles as Lucas and Dillon. Curtis was cyberbullied for several months and had to involve the police. [18] Curtis explained that "Being trolled started to take over my days", and revealed that his younger sister was also bullied in school. [18] Because of his personal experiences with bullying, he is a strong supporter of anti-bullying causes and is also an ambassador for the Diana Award charity. Amy Barnes is a fictional character from the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Ashley Slanina-Davies. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 2 January 2006. Amy was created by executive producer David Hanson and Slanina-Davies was offered the role whilst looking for work as an extra. In 2009, Slanina-Davies stated that she would be lost without the role and confirmed her loyalty to the serial. In July 2010, it was announced that Slanina-Davies would be leaving the show. However, it was later revealed that she was back filming and staying in the serial in 2011. Amy's storylines have included underage pregnancy which resulted in the birth of daughter Leah Barnes and the subject of domestic abuse in her relationship with Ste Hay, portrayed by Kieron Richardson. Whilst filming the storyline, Slanina-Davies cut her long hair off for charity and this was scripted into the storyline.
Ste Hay is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Kieron Richardson. He debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 10 February 2006. Ste was created by David Hanson and was originally intended to be a short-term character for seven episodes. The following series producer Bryan Kirkwood decided to bring the character back on a permanent basis. As of 2010, Richardson has revealed that he is committed to staying in the serial. In April 2017, Richardson began taking hiatus from the show due to paternity leave, and made a full-time return on 18 December 2017. In October 2019, it was confirmed that Richardson will take a hiatus from the show departing on 20 November 2019. He returned on 3 November 2020.
Lucas Hay is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Oscar Curtis. Lucas is the son of Ste Hay and Amy Barnes, and the half-brother of Leah Barnes and Hannah Hay-O'Connor. He was born on-screen in episode 2530, originally broadcast on 3 April 2009. The character was of recurring status from 2009 to 2023, being portrayed by three different child actors, but the role was promoted to regular when the recast of Oscar Curtis was announced. Since the characters' recast, series producers Hannah Cheers and Angelo Abela placed Lucas at the forefront of a conversion therapy issue-based storyline that saw Lucas subsequently struggling to come to terms with his sexuality whilst being incorrectly influenced by his headteacher Carter Shepherd to hate homosexuality.
Esther Bloom is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by actor Jazmine Franks. The character made her first on-screen appearance on 18 January 2011. Franks had previously auditioned for roles in the show. She did not think that she had secured the part of Esther and concentrated on her studies until she was informed. As an open lesbian, Esther is comfortable with her sexuality. Since her inception she has shared a friendship with the character Ruby Button but has long been subjected to her "bitchy" comments. She is characterised as having a "selfless consideration for others" despite being a "proverbial punchbag" for many characters. Esther found confidence when she decided to pursue a fashion career. Franks has said that upon doing so Esther's style also changed.
Ruby Victoria O'Donnell is an English actress. Since 2013, O'Donnell has portrayed the role of Peri Lomax in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. For her portrayal of Peri, she won the award for Best Young Actor at the 2016 British Soap Awards.
James Nightingale is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Gregory Finnegan. The character made his first on-screen appearance on 12 January 2016. Finnegan's casting was announced in December 2015, and James was billed as a mysterious character and lawyer. His introduction to the show featured him attempting to convince Cindy Cunningham to take legal action against Mac Nightingale, in a bid to secure his assets. Having kept the character's identity concealed, writers implemented a story twist in which James is revealed to be Mac's son. Lysette Anthony was cast to play his mother Marnie Nightingale, a character which James features alongside most. Their on-screen partnership developed them into a trouble making and villainous duo. Writers played on their manipulative manner to the extent that James manages to con the entire Hutchinson family, out of their restaurant "The Hutch".
Scott Drinkwell is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Ross Adams. The character made his first appearance on 27 April 2015. Producers asked Adams to audition for the role while he was working as a script editor on rival soap opera Emmerdale. The actor forgot his lines during his screen test but was still offered the role. The character was billed as a "troublesome new relative" joining the show's established O'Connor family. He is the cousin of Sinead O'Connor and nephew to Diane Hutchinson. Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood introduced the character to cause conflict with other characters.
Grace Roscoe is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Tamara Wall. The character made her first on-screen appearance on 8 November 2013. Wall had three auditions for the role on the show's set in Liverpool. The character is introduced as the sister of Clare Devine, who had been killed off in earlier episodes. Grace arrives to investigate her death and get reacquainted with her estranged father Fraser Black.
Beau Ramsey is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Jon-Paul Bell. Beau first appears in episode 5964, originally broadcast on 20 October 2022. Bell's casting and character details were announced on 6 September 2022 by Hollyoaks's former executive producer Lucy Allan. The newcomer was later revealed as the estranged son of the soap opera's longest serving character Tony Hutchinson. Beau's storylines since his debut in the serial consist of being revealed as the son of Tony, settling into the Hutchinson family and moving into The Dog in the Pond public house, his brief affair with Liberty Savage upon introduction, his relationships with Maxine Minniver and Kitty Draper before murdering Kitty's conversion therapist father Declan Hawthorne in self-defence after he held her hostage. Bell's portrayal of Beau received a nomination for "Best Newcomer" at the Inside Soap Awards 2023. In June 2024, it was reported Beau was set to leave the series, with his departure airing on 1 August 2024.
Andrew Still is a Scottish actor. After joining the Scottish Youth Theatre, he played Joel Dexter in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks from 2011 to 2013, also portraying the role in Hollyoaks Later in 2012. Still then struggled to get new roles and worked in various other occupations. Still then appeared in the series Outlander and Fried before playing Scott Fairchild on in the drama Waterloo Road in 2015. Still made his stage debut in National Theatre of Scotland's The James Plays trilogy (2016). In 2018, he took over the role of "Sick Boy" in Trainspotting Live. After appearing as Brian in the 2021 film Nobody Has to Know, Still played Rory Dashford in the series Granite Harbour in 2022. That December, he began appearing as the villain Justin Rutherford in a recurring guest role in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, last appearing in October 2023. Still has also acted in various theatre productions and workshops in addition to the short film Dark Roads. Still was nominated for "Best newcomer" at the 2012 TV Choice Awards for his Hollyoaks role as Joel and was longlisted for "Best Villain" at the 2023 Inside Soap Awards for his Coronation Street role as Justin, whilst Justin's storylines won and were nominated for several other awards.
Danny Lomax is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Stephen Billington. The character and casting were announced in July 2013, with Billington making his first appearance on 8 July. Billington, who had previously appeared on Coronation Street, was happy to be cast on another soap. He had previously auditioned for another role on Hollyoaks but was glad he did not receive it as he preferred Danny's character. Danny was introduced as a new drama teacher and as a love interest of John Paul McQueen. Danny was characterised as being charming, caring and secretive, with it being teased that Danny has many secrets that would come out. It is revealed that Danny is happily married to Sam Lomax whilst having a relationship with John Paul. Sam and her daughters with Danny – Teegan, Leela and Peri Lomax – later move to Hollyoaks. Danny is also revealed to be the father of established character Ste Hay and the two develop a father-son relationship. Hollyoaks producer, Bryan Kirkwood, had introduced the Lomaxes in order to give Ste a family unit on the soap. The family deal with various dramas, including Tegan giving birth and Peri's brain tumour.
Nathaniel Dass is a British actor, singer and musician. Dass played the main role of Nathaniel/Nate in the CBBC musical dramedy television series Almost Never, which ran for three seasons between 2019 and 2021. Since 2023, Dass has portrayed Dillon Ray in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, for which he was nominated for "Best Partnership" at the 2024 Inside Soap Awards.
Elá-May Melek Demircan is a British-Turkish actress. She has played the role of Leah Barnes on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks since 2011, when she was four years old. She has been nominated for several awards for the role, including at the British Soap Awards and the Inside Soap Awards. In 2024, it was reported that she would depart the soap to explore other acting roles.
