Osman bin Aroff (born 23 November 1940) is a Malaysian politician. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party in Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was the Menteri Besar of Kedah from 28 January 1985 to 16 June 1996. [1] [2]

Early life and education

Born in Jitra, Kedah on 23 November 1940, he received his early education at Sekolah Melayu Jitra until the fourth grade. Next in 1951, he continued his secondary education at Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Setar, Kedah. He graduated from Cambridge Senior in 1958. From 1959 to 1963, he continued his studies in political science at Washington University in St. Louis. [1]

Personal life

He is married to Puan Sri Azizah Abdul Hamid and has 4 children. [3]

He held the seat of Sungai Limau in the Kedah state assembly from 2004 until his death in 2013. He was also the state commissioner for PAS in Kedah and a member of the central committee of the national party.

Tun Mohamed Zahir bin Ismail was a Malaysian lawyer and politician who served as Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, the lower chamber of the Malaysian Parliament from June 1982 to his death in October 2004. He was the longest-serving officeholder by serving for 22 years, 4 months. He was also the first Chancellor of the International Medical University from 1999 to 2004.

Elyas bin Omar was the third Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, as well as the longest serving as Mayor in History of Kuala Lumpur. He served for a period of 12 years. Elyas was the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and during his tenure, Malaysia won the Thomas Cup in 1992. In football, Elyas was president of Kuala Lumpur FA when it won the Malaysia Cup three times in a row from 1987 to 1989. Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah is the 29th Sultan of Kedah since ascending to the throne in September 2017 upon the death of his elder half-brother Abdul Halim. As the fourth son of Badlishah of Kedah, that lived to adulthood he was initially not expected to inherit the throne.

Tan Sri Abdul Hamid bin Othman was a minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
