Overtures of Blasphemy is the twelfth studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on September 14, 2018, through Century Media Records. [1]

Contents

The cover artwork was created by Zbigniew M. Bielak, who has also worked with Ghost, Paradise Lost, and Mayhem. [1] This is the band's first album since In the Minds of Evil (2013), and it is the only record to feature guitarist Mark English of Monstrosity, who replaced Jack Owen in 2016. [2]

The album received mixed to positive reviews. Metal Injection said that "the album definitely belongs in the top half of Deicide's discography", [3] Decibel said that "by track four, it has already muscled its way into the upper echelons of the band’s storied discography", [6] but Exclaim! writer Joe Smith-Engelhardt called the album a "sore spot" in Deicide's career. [4]

The album was initially set for release on May 8, 2020, through Epic and Nuclear Blast, but was later pushed back to June 19 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lamb of God marks the first studio album of all-new material by the band since 2015's VII: Sturm und Drang, making it the longest gap between their albums, and the first to feature Art Cruz as the replacement for original drummer Chris Adler, who left the band in July 2019. Lamb of God was once again produced by longtime collaborator Josh Wilbur, who has worked with the band since 2006's Sacrament.
